Title: App Keeps Quitting

I'm used to periodic crashes of various apps since I upgraded to Leopard, but now I have one which crashes constantly.  It is Sync Server.  Why is it crashing and how do I fix it??? Please help!  wallbash.gif

What is Sync Server?  What is it used for and what messages if any do you get?

After we find out what "Sync Server" is and how to fix it, we need to find out how to stop the "periodic crashing of various apps." That is not something that is normal and you should not "get used to it." Perhaps some details of your System would help:
1. Mac model
2. OS version ( we know it's Leopard, but there has been an update)
3. Installed RAM
4. Third-party apps/plugins/Pref panes/input managers/basically anything you have added to the basic install
5. Hard drive stats: original size(s), amount used, externals in use
6. Are you using .Mac/iDisk? I'm assuming that that is what is trying to use the "sync" functions.
7. Any apps started on startup

Think I found the answer to Sync Server.  Read a post on another forum - went into home/library/application support, and deleted the "local " folder in SyncServices, which seems to have fixed the problem.  

Mac Intel 24m Leopard 10.5.1, 3 GB RAM, 300 GNB drive, with apparently only about 75 GB used, which makes no sense, since it originally said I had used about 150 GB!, three firewire drives - one 300 GB, one partitioned 500 GB drive, and one 160 GB drive.  The 160 is used for Mac Backup, the 300 is used by Time Machine, and 300 GB partition of the 500 is used for SuperDuper cloning, and the extra volume created for more storage.  As you can see, I'm paranoid about backups.

As for pref panes - all that shows up on a search is Opera.  Also using Serene Saver screensaver, chimey, Google Desktop, Browseback.

Yes, I am using ,Mac/idisk.

As for the extra space used on the internal drive, that could very well be because of Google Desktop. I don't know what it does that Spotlight is not already doing on a Mac. But I'm no expert on GD. Not sure what that screen saver uses for images but images normally can use huge amounts of memory/disk space. Never heard of "chimey." "Browseback" sounds like some kind of browser history/archive, if you do a lot of browsing, that could also be eating up disk space.  dntknw.gif

By "Pref panes," I meant your System Preferences, each is actually called a pref panel. Easiest way to call them up is with the "System Preferences..." item in the Apple menu. What I'm looking for are non-Apple panels.

Google Desktop does live in/have a preference pane, Jim. It would be found in the "other" category at the bottom of the Preferences window. As does Chimey. Don't know about Browseback, but it gets really bad reviews at Versiontracker.

Google Desktop is known as a real resource hog - some have had severe issues with it. Of course, YMMV.

No, NOT using a lot of disk space.  Showing that I am using only HALF the disk space I was using before.  I was up to about 140 BG used, now I am showing about 73 GB.  Scary!  Thinking.gif

Sorry, I missunderstod and thought it was the other way around. doh.gif But if you now have restored the drive and have almost 100% improvement, what is the 'problem?' I'd love to find a way of keeping all my apps and data and at the same time reduce their foot print by 50%! smile.gif So, if everything is running normally and no apps hat you want are missing, enjoy the new-found space. And at least 40GB of that was the mysterious and un-needed ".tar" file, anyway, right? Not sure where the other ~30GB came from. Just consider it a bonus! smile.gif

I'm not suffering with the extra space - I just don't know how it happened.  Things like that make me nervous.
