Title: Well, I finally DID it!!
Post by: kbeartx on April 09, 2008, 06:15:02 PM
I have not even set it up yet, but I'm very exCITed.
It will be my first experience of Leopard, too, so don't be surprised if I'm here asking questions later tonite or later in the week....
Still waiting on a 750 GB SATA drive, coming in 'the mail'.
[I'll modify my Profile to include the 'new' machine's specs]

Congrats!
Keep us informed as you get it going.
I'm still in G4-land.

I see that Pontiac is already up to G8 now.
Your computer's performance varies inversely with the amount of sleep you get. Go to bed!

Congrats, kbear! There will major changes from Panther but you've already seen those in Tiger. There are also several new features that I have grown to love! You'll probably have your own favorites. The change between Tiger and Leopard is easier than Panther to Tiger, I've heard. Of course, nothing like the change from OS 9 to Leopard!

Congratulations KBeartx.
I never owned a G5, but I am thinking about getting a second hand G5 as my file server.

Just connected and turned-on the G5 for the first time, still marveling at Leopard and how blazingly fast this beast is! Lots more to be done ASAP!! KBear

I've enjoyed my Powermac G5 for quite some time now. I thought about upgrading to a MacPro, but the G5 is still fine for what I need. Congrats.

Cheetah was first:Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Leopard
Something screwy going on here. I can't edit any posts in this thread. Anyone else having trouble?
OK, seems as though adding one particular group of words is not being allowed..... weird.
I don't remember Cheetah or Puma. Must not have been promoted as much as the fact it was OSX back then.
I had a little trouble loading pages, but my sentences are rather simple.
Weird is a good word for choosing Cheetah first instead of saving that for a faster version. (I've seen others here suggest Cheetah for the next "point" upgrade.)

Cheetah was pretty much beta but was still labeled at OS X. I also would have thought that they would save that for last. Maybe Lion as King will the the last.

Will someone else construct a sentence using the following words together in it and make a reply to this thread?
Apple
Lynx
Cougar
trademarked

I've had my G5 tower since 2004, and it is still going great guns.

I tried about 4 ways...

It wouldn't let me edit it in either... even with a 'goofy' sentence with those words....
Later... Even in quotes it wouldn't let me use a combination of those words!!!

OH THANK YOU BOB!!
I thought I was going crazy. I have tried 3 different identities, 2 browsers, quit and restarted and could not get it to work unless I put some of those words within quotes.
Now I am just wondering why?

Cougar hopped in his new Lynx, started the engine and raced up the street. He was munching on the Apple he'd grabbed from the counter, wishing he had time for toast and jam. As he drove to the office he mulled over the issue facing him with his first client. What to do with the trademarked letters? It was a real puzzle.
I created and posted this using quick reply. I was able to use quick edit to bold the secret words.
Using full edit ... I'm wondering why those words are behaving so oddly and do they have to be in a certain order?

Now write it again but all in one sentence, not separate ones and don't use commas.
IE: C--- hopped in his new L--- started the engine and raced up the street munching on the A--- he'd grabbed from the counter.

No luck. Got some sort of Forbidden error message.

OK, I've narrowed it down to just Lynx.
Notice it shows up in that sentence at the end.
BUT if you use L--- in a sentence and it is not at the end of the sentence then it won't be accepted.
Try it. All you have to do is write something very simple like 'Lynx' is a cat but don't use the quotes around the word.
Even just a two word sentence like: L--- is. Forbidden.
And lowercase l--- is. Also Forbidden.
Even L--- . (leave a space before the .) In fact as long as there is a space after L--- anything can be put there, numbers, letters or even NOTHING, just a space.
Amazing...
Why?

Beats the "L" out of me!!!

Rhymes with jinx?

Uhm, kriss, do your parents know about your problem? Do they even know where you are, right now?!
So, you're saying that the forum software won't accept a sentence with "Lynx" anywhere other than as the last word?!
Strange, indeed. There must be something in the php parser that looks for that word. Maybe it's the name of the server the developers used. Or one of their passwords.

Y'know, I really thought I had lost it but it is still acting up. Maybe we need to run the latest software upgrade.
We don't have any word filters in place and I've tried misspelling or using similar words but only L-y-nx will cause the Forbidden page to show up.
Go ahead, try it.

I found out why it's happening!
After posting over at the forum for our board software, someone suggested it may have to do with a reserved word on the server level.
So I emailed ASO and gave them the details and got this in reply:
QUOTE
This is the result of a security module we use called mod_security. It is designed to prevent already insecure scripts from being compromised. The reason for the word 'lynx' is it is often used in code injection to fetch malicious content.
Regards, Mike
Mystery solved!

Apple brought out Lynx, then Cougar, then Tiger, then Leopard. What is next?
Doesn't work unless a character follws the name:
Apple Lynx, Cougar Tiger Leopard. is ok, but line without , after Lynx, messes up.
