Title: Can't delete item in trash
Post by: dolphin on May 19, 2008, 09:23:01 AM
I've been trying to empty the trash and 2 items will not go.
I keep getting this message:
When I do a "Get Info" on them it says they are not locked. How can I get rid of them???
TIA for any help.

Roy,
Try holding down the Option key and do Command-Shift-Delete.
That may get rid of the recalcitrant files.

One of these should do it:
I. Boot in Safe Boot or boot to a different volume and try deleting from there.
II. In Finder, go to (menu bar) Finder and select Secure Delete.
III. 1. Launch Terminal (Applications/Utilities). 2. Type sudo rm -rf (leave a space after sudo, after rm, and after -rf). 3. Drag the folder into the Terminal window; the path to it will appear. 4. Press Return and type your administrator password. 5. Press Return again. 6. Type exit and press Return for the last time. 7. Quit Terminal. The offending folder will be gone
IV. Many utilities such as Cocktail, OnyX, and TinkerTool System will delete stubborn files.

V. Tell your wife that the trash needs to go out.

This did the trick Jack. I knew this...but hadn't had to use it in a long long time...kept forgetting to hit the OPTION key.
