Mozilla will release the next version of its Firefox browser on Tuesday and attempt to set a Guinness World Record for software downloads.
The company has deemed June 17 “Download Day,” part of a campaign unveiled on May 28 asking users to download Firefox 3 on the first day it is released to set what very well may be the geekiest world record ever—the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours.
I've been running FF 3 in various beta forms for some time now - it's nice. The only problem is that not all my extensions from FF 2.x work with it yet. Otherwise, seems very stable, fast etc. I just realized that for the past several months, I've done 99.99% of my browsing in beta browsers - Webkit (nightly build) and FF 3.

The Mozilla browser is no longer updated, right?
Now the Mozilla Foundation has developed Thunderbird.
Why are both TB and FF out there?
MacWorld reviews mail clients this month. Thunderbird is one, but the article slips up and calls it Firefox once.
Maybe I just answered my own question!

Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component.
FF=Web browser. Thunderbird=email.

My Tiger Mac is still in the shop, and I saw Firefox 3, tried to install it on this Panther Mac and it wont work. So I am trying to unstall it, did that OK, but there is no link for FF2? Anybody here have it? I need to reinstall it, as I use it all the time. Egads, why dont they say that on the page in bright letters, that it is no good for Panther!!!!. Every time I try to get 2 they give me 3. No matter what I Google for 2, I get 3. I am about to give up, as there is not one link to FF2. Ive got to sign off now, but will be up early Eastern time 5am. Thanks, Jane

Good heavens, lots of people fell into this trap, they did not post a warning for 10.3 people and there were a lot of us in the same boat. I finally got this proper link thru the overloaded chat thing,

I installed FF 3.0 last night. So far it works great. After installation, it alerted me that the google toobar needed to be updated--which it then did.

According to Slashdot the main website for Firefox has been brought down by this attempt at a record (I would've expected this to happen) so perhaps the attempt will fail or at least be less effective then they would've hoped!

I finally got it downloaded here at home and I must've missed the deadline to be part of the 8 million or whatever. Never could get to it at work and I was too busy until now to get it here. Seems to run okay on a G4 with 10.4 733MHz but it's behavior is going to take some getting used to; not bad just different!

I completely forgot about it all day yestidday, remembered a coppola hrs ago, and d/l'd it maybe an hour and a half ago. No probs at all getting it to d/l, installed easily and smoothly, FF3 'inherited' all the bookmarks, cookies, and plugins from FF2, and all is well in MozillaLand tonight in central Texas.

I've now got a bit of a problem. I quite like the idea of FF being less of a meory hog, and some of the other changes seem rather nice.
However... Google Browsersync does not work with it. It's one of the few addons that I use and I'm rather loathe to give it up. To make matters worse there are reports that Google may be dropping it at the end of the year
I know that there are other bookmark synchronising solutions, Foxmarks etc, but none of them do all the stuff that Browersync does.
I guess I'll just stick to FF 2 until something turns up that does what I want

What do you 'sync' bookmarks to/for?

I sync my bookmarks between my iMac and Macbook. It also syncs password and cookies. If I decided that I needed it, I could also sync my Browsing History and Tabs/Windows.

I keep forgetting some of you have more than one Mac! We have two but I wouldn't dream of messin' with my wife's bookmarks! That would be even worse than switching her from Tiger to Leopard! And from Eudora to Mail! Maybe I can/will do that 'syncing' when someone gives me an iPhone.
According to Spread Firefox's Download Day site <http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/>, more than 8 million copies of the program were downloaded in its first 24 hours, well more than the target of 5 million.
And

150 downloads in the Aland Islands, 202 in Zimbabwe, 309 in Iraq and 260,802 in Iran(!).
No mention of Nigeria...
