Title: Lines around the block at the KCMO Apple Store!
Post by: gunug on August 02, 2008, 07:53:31 AM
Every year, just before schools start up, the state of Missouri drops the sales tax on things people need to get for school and this includes computers. While I'm sure that Best Buy was doing good business it was nice to see lines around the block at the KCMO (Plaza) Apple Store without it being the first day of some release. Looking at the line though; I'd bet a "lot" of those people didn't have school age kids! The only other situation like this in the area yesterday was the gas station that was selling gas for $1.98!

That could never happen around here. We have a "minimum mark-up" law.

They were closing down the gas station and wanted to empty the tanks. The family that runs that station is going to sell electric cars!

Somebody wrote a letter to the editor of our newspaper about those cars. His basic question was where all the electrical capacity is going to come from if there is a massive shift from gasoline powered to rechargeable "plug-in" vehicles. Seems like a pretty good question to me, especially considering all the brown-outs the last few years.

I was surprised to see a line outside the door of the Apple Store nearby, also. Tennessee has the same "Tax-Holiday" every year, also. With the State, County and City sales tax, we can save 9.75% on these three days! But computers are limited to $1,500 maximum price. I'm sure that limit is not just for computers but not much else will cost more than that and can be carried out of a store by the buyer.
Despite the crowds, everyone seemed to be happy! The extra 'hands' on duty probably helped, also.
Fortunately, I didn't have to stand in line to pick up a powered USB hub for my Grandkid!
