Title: Is there a maximum number of posts in a thread limit?

I've been trying, for the last 15 minutes, to share some of my well known and highly praised humor on the Community side. ("We need some more humor" thread) However, After adding my third post, I noticed that the first one I had entered was gone. And the second one had the third one attached at the end of it. What!

I decided to just delete the 'third' post from the second and reformat the second one. It seemed to have lost all carriage returns and some spaces. Edited clicked the Editing Complete button and it appeared as it should.

Clicked into the Fast Reply window, where all the other posts had been entered, BTW, and pasted in the 'third' post, again. Clicked the Post button. Again, all that text was in the second post instead of its own!

I did this three times before deciding that continuing the same steps would not get different results.

I'll bet I can't duplicate it, of course. At least I hope not!

Perhaps there is simply a maximum number of posts in any thread for any one member?

Don't take it personal, it's probably  just a "glitch". Suppose????

Went back and added another with no problem. But trying to add the fourth one I ended up with one mangled, combined post. I just deleted the added stuff and, once again, reformatted the third one. You don't have to hit me with a 4 x 4 more than a few dozen times to get to me!

But isn't there something about the time between posts.... and that if you're too 'quick on the trigger' the board software will combine the posts into the 1st??

Maybe, I'm all wet here, but I THINK I recall something along these lines...

Bob is correct. It's a feature of the software that posts within a certain time frame (and I'm not sure what that time frame is) are all "auto-merged" by the board software into 1 post. Supposed to help stop spammers and folks bumping up their post count (some boards have cute names for different posting levels -- and it's often a race to get out of being a "fluffy bunny" and into "mad dog the pirate" group.)

Anyhow, here at TS we use it as a feature to frustrate all those with an "X" in their screen name because it's so much fun to watch you bang your head on the wall.

No, but maybe we should limit the number of threads in a post.

Most of us have short attention spans.

There is a 5 minute span under which any new  posts in the same thread will be attached to the previous post by the same individual.

Thanks (I guess) Kris. That's what was happening. Unfortunately, the "attaching" munged up the first and the 'attached' posting. All 'line feeds' were deleted. Paragraphs/blank lines were deleted. All that remained was a mass of words (only one huge paragraph), sometimes having no space between sentences and certainly nothing resembling the original format(s).

I have no problem with combining posts during any reasonable time frame. But the software, as currently set up, simply mangles all posts during that 'time frame.' And I can understand the reasoning of combining posts from one person, also. I guess I never hit this before as I usually edit a post to add/edit info. This time I had three separate 'humorous' posts. I suppose they could all have been in one large one, I just didn't think of that!

I much prefer the notice about waiting for a while before creating another new topic. Wonder if that same action could be used in multiple posts in the same topic? Easy for me to ask, since it requires no work on my part! Fergit it!
