Title: Emergency, Emergency, Everyone to Get From Street!
Post by: gunug on January 30, 2009, 08:48:51 AM
Bruce Sterling, noted cyberpunk scifi writer, thinks the 2009 will be characterized as a year of panic:

QUOTE
It's become an item of fundamentalist faith to maintain that the climate crisis is a weird leftist hoax. Yet, since the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike, an honest fear of the consequences will prove hard to repress. Since the fear has been methodically obscured, its emergence from the mists of superstition will be all the more powerful. Unlike mere shibboleths of finance, this is a situation that's objectively terrifying and likely to remain so indefinitely.

Worth a read and I'm not trying to be political!   Devilish2.gif

Time to spend more time reading by the light of LED flashlights!

Much of life is attitude.

It can destroy or elevate.

The choice is yours.    smile.gif

Yeah, I thought he was talking a little too gloomy even if he was making a good case.

Every 'ideology' has its extremists. Not that I don't believe there will eventually be an end to all we know and see, but that the time and manner will not be of our pre-knowledge and certainly not in our control. In the meantime, it is my responsibility to provide my faith-inspired 'solution' to all I can in whatever way I can.

But you are absolutely correct in your statement that "the choice is yours." To me that both makes it the most unusual of 'solutions' and what makes it so hard for many to understand and accept. All our cultures teach us that we must work or earn anything we get. "Love" is the exception, in most places but the word is so distorted that it is often hard to know what true Love actually can do.

All in all, this guy and his 'group' are a great example of 'pessimistic thinking.' It is almost always easy to find fault with any human created entity. And their failure only helps confirm those 'faults.' But even I can see faults in his logic and some of the 'facts' he makes without any evidence in support. Maybe his early comments that people "...assure one another that at last the wool has been lifted from their eyes" could apply to himself? smile.gif I guess he's just trying to be able to say he lifted the wool first! smile.gif

It's already happened in Austin, TX last week.

Actually, some vandals cut the lock on the sign & reprogrammed it.

Thanks Tom, I have already got a night shot of that sign as my desktop picture!  I might just start a Zombie Party in the next Lawrence elections!
