I am getting a new MacBook Pro and I've got a perfectly good 17" Studio Display about six years old. Is it possible to connect it to the new MacBook Pro?
-
Yes the MacBook Pro will span with an external monitor. Or even mirror. I don't see why not.
It comes with a Mini DisplayPort. Not sure if your studio display is ADC.... I think it might be....But, if not, see if one of these adapters would work.

I just found this.... it is a dvi to ADC adapter....

Script says that you can combine this with a mini display port to DVI adapter and run an ADC monitor.

Al,
Thanks a bunch! I'll give it a shot.

Al,
I've been looking through all of the links you provided, but none of them seem to have a 30 pin connector which is at the end of my 17" Studio Display. Am I missing something?

I have been attaching my 23" Cinema display (with a standard DVI port) to my older MacBook Pro. Works fine. and I can move from one screen to another b just mousing to the edge of one screen and the pointer pops up on the other screen. As fr as the connector is concerned, find out from the Apple web page what adapter works for you given the type of both ports. I believe there is a special adpater to go to a new mini-DVI port. Try Googling to find it.

The 17" Studio/Cinema display has an ADC connector:

Think you will need two adapters:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?t...50&tstart=0
ADC to DVI and then DVI to Mini Display...so you'll need one of these as well: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B?mco=NDkxNzg4NQ
There doesn't appear to be any Mini Display to ADC. Since ADC carries power as well as the video signals etc., the converter for ADC to non-power-carrying connectors is not as simple (or cheap) as say, DVI to Mini Display Port. Bottom line: it appears that it will cost about $130 for the adapters required, unless you can find a used ADC to DVI adapter on eBay or something. The Apple ones on eBay seem to go for around $75 (avg) and the Belkin ones for much less.

Hey, thanks guys. This sounds more like a working solution. As always, the TS people know their Macs
