The reason we put required on it is to help the students on financial need
Sounds like the old, "They will only pay 75% of what we ask for, so we'll have to add an additional 33% to make sure we get our 100%" scheme.
Works for doctors, flight schools, etc.
I guess it depends on what you mean by "required." And I always though they had one of the best journalism schools in the country.
Sort of hoped they were also teaching ethics...

The requirement will not be enforced, however, and there will not be a penalty for students who chose not to buy an iPod touch or iPhone, Brooks said.
Journalists no longer "required" to espouse clarity.
Oddly, at last night's White House Correspondents' Dinner, several (I think 10) scholarships went to Journo/MO's students.

The whole thing is a bit misleading (typical Fox news) - until you get to the bit about the REASON they made it "required" - if it's not "required" then students can't include it in their funding applications. It's no different than saying a $200 textbook is "required."

I'll skip the dig
(which I think is incorrect. I could make the same statement -- and worse -- about MSNBC, CNN, ABC, etc, etc, etc) and just say that you do need to read both articles to get the full picture and at least FoxNews had more quotes from Brooks.
-
Brooks? Was she in that article, too?!
-
I read both articles, Kimmer, and several more. They were all being sensationalist in my opinion. And, you know my opinion of Fox...

A slow news day I guess - now that the swine flu pandemic has failed to materialize. Cynical? Moi? Try working in a newsroom for a couple of years - spin is the name of the game at far too many papers desperately trying to compete with the Web and all the other distractions that have lead to falling circulation numbers.

I assume there is a reason you left out the other media?
IMHO, there are not many Professional Journalists left. Lots of 'reporters,' of course. And thousands of talking heads, opinionated, don't-have-to-prove-anything-because-it's-my-opinion types, too. And, the interweb has not helped at all.
Thus my comment about ethics at the well known school. Sounds like a poor messages to be sending these 'kids,' whether by iPhone of Blackberry...
Now, what does any of this have to do with "Technology?"

My niece benefitted from the free iPod Touch offer last summer when she bought her MacBook for college classes. Great deal.

Those articles brought back memories of taking notes in lectures and making quick sketches of sculpture and paintings that were slides the prof showed in art history courses. My notes were always popular with my sorority sisters.
Oh, how much easier it is today to go online and look up those images and get much more info.
