I have had a Actiontec router that came with my FIOS system from Verizon for several months now. I have had no problems. If you getting such a high failure rate ask Actiontec for a free replacement until they finally come through. Or since Verizon is your ISP, talk to them about your problem and suggest that you consider this as a part of their system especially if it came with your DSL package. I am sure they will try to find a fix so as to avoid losing a customer.

Verizon only tells me that the warranty will not be extended and if the modem fails I will have to pay for it, I do not have FIOS, just their DSL (I live it the rural's), Verizon tech support is VERY bad, the ones on the phones must be following a list of suggested trial and errors, when they get to the part of "Please restart your computer"
, that is the time I ask for their supervisor! I spent more than 45 minutes with three techs, and every one of them, even though I requested a line test, they would not and start from the list; "first do this, then do that", even though I continued to ask for a line test, it was the fourth person I talked to, yes the supervisor, when he finally tested the line and sure enough, the line showed noise, the supervisor then put me on hold for about 5 minutes, when he got back to me he told me to restart the modem and all should be well, he also told me that where I live someone had run over one of their splice boxes and he now showed the line clear, I'm now running full speed again, but I would love to hear if their regular modem without the wireless built-in lasts longer??

I guess the first one is free (kinda) once the warranty is up they make you pay for the new one, you also have to send the defective one back, you must understand, when that happens we are at their mercy, it took more than a week to get the new one, then for a year or so I'm happy with Verizon, but that two weeks, once a year, fighting with them is rather frustrating, again mostly with their so called tech. support!
Anyone can follow a list, it takes a real tech. to diagnose and repair, that is where Verizon's needs improvement!

I love my cable service (Cox Communications). I have had them since 1999- they stand behind their products and services, and treat customers like they are glad to serve them.I have heard such horror stories about some DSL's, and a few cable companies, too...

My Westell Wirespeed 2100 (wired only), provided by Verizon, has been up and running 24 hrs/day for the past 5+ years with zero problems. You can occasionally pick one of these up for less than $20 on the LEM Swap List .... if you ever think you might need a back-up plan. However, as with all things, YMMV. Also, keep in mind ..... Westell 2100 is just a modem ..... the Actiontech is a modem/router.

The wireless/router part(s) are too inexpensive to keep paying for their all-in-one-we-know-better-than-you-and-you-can't-get-anything-else-anyway method.

The Actiontech is also my wireless router, this is what I will be shed of very soon, I've had zero problems with my Airport, I wonder if one of those Airport Extreme would do here? I don't even mind if I had to buy the latest Airport for the front of the house, anyway thank you all for your insight, it was very valuable!
