Title: OT - Gamers
Post by: cdub1988 on May 27, 2003, 03:16:03 PM
Can one of you gamers tell me what kind of offerings if any are out there to run any kind of multi-user setup on a small network?

My son seems to be taking to games and I would like to keep him from the online ones as much as I can.

If there's any out there (don't need to be anything real high-end), I'd love to hear about them.

Consequently, the machines are both older PMacs, so we really need a little less graphic-intensive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I know nothing about games.

Maelstrom for OS X can do network play, but not the OS 9 version.

Chris, it really would be helpful to know the age of your son, what kind of Mac will he be using and what OS is running on it.

Al -

Sorry about that.  blush-anim-cl.gif

He turns 12 in August. Likes action games, but isn't disinterested in the simplest arcade game, either.  wink.gif

Running on an 8500/120/300+MB/4GB/DSL/A_SLEW_OF_APPS.

That help?

 thanx.gif a bunch, guys.

Take care.

Great Chris, now we know what we're working with.

There are a lot of old action, RPG and civilization games that would work on that Mac.  It's if you can still find them that will pose a challenge.

Star Wars Trio - Rebel Assault, X Wing & Dark Forces
MechWarrior - NetMech
StarCraft
WarCraft
Lords of the Realm II
Marathon
Marathon 2
You Don't know Jack
Nascar Racing (not the new one that just came out)
Caesar II
Ares
A-10 Attack
F/A-18 Hornet
Pathways into Darkness
Descent
Descent II
Myth
Souls in the System

The only ones I know of that are networkable is StarCraft.  Could be more, just that I don't know.

Just remembered about NetMech and Game Ranger.

Not exactly an action game, but Virtual Pool is also supposed to be networkable.  You can still find this game on VersionTracker.
