Title: If you run into any error messages on TS...
Post by: krissel on July 24, 2009, 04:31:37 AM
I tried to install a modification which ended up giving errors when accessing controls to PM, email, etc.

One of the original files was returned so those errors should not reappear. But if anyone comes across any other difficulties anywhere on the forum please post here.

Still getting "An error occurred" when trying to approve a 'Friend' request.

OK - it was an ID-Ten-T error.... hadn't checked the box to say who I wanted to approve. Deja vu - this happened the last time. I'll get the hang of it eventually  wallbash.gif

I get that response almost all the time, but I assumed it was because no one wants to be my friend! sad.gif tears.gif laughhard.gif

Himac.... i got that same error when I was setting up the 'daisy chain' connection for my external HDDs.....   wallbash.gif

That must be a common error for a lot of Mac problems... whistling.gif toothgrin.gif

have been trying to upload some pics recently, all under 2MB, the message i get after trying to upload is, 'you have not elected a file to upload'. is this a 'me' error or a TS fault? pauline

When you say 'under 2MB' I'm guessing that means not a lot under smile.gif

Try reducing them so they are more like 200-300kb. Make sure the resolution is 72dpi, and not the print resolution. If you can PM me a link to the picture you're trying to upload, I'll have a look at it. I'm by no means an expert, but I can manage the basics wink.gif

OK - found Kris's post about uploads in this thread
QUOTE
Since allowing members to upload images last year we are starting to see our server space disappear all too rapidly.

I went into the folders of uploads for the past several months and reduced the size and resolution of many large files to reclaim some of the space. But we will have to be more conservative in the future to continue to provide this feature.

We are asking you to please try to keep your image uploads to under 200K if possible (under 100K is even better). If you need instructions on how to do it, please post. Also if you have something really special that should be seen in its full glory perhaps you could look into hosting the image on one of the many free sites available and link to it from your post.

Thanks for understanding. We are running on a shoestring budget and are trying to keep from incurring expense for more server space.

Having re-read that, I'm off to check the (EDIT to add: "size and number of") pix I've uploaded....  whistling.gif

Uploading a file/image here is not exactly intuitive. It is really a three step process.
1. Put the cursor in your message to tell the software where to place the image/file. Otherwise, it will end up at the end of your message.
2. Choose an image/file to upload. Looks like you probably did that part.
3. Click the "Upload" button.
4. Wait for the upload to complete.
5. Click the "Manage Current Attachments..." There should be a number showing how many images/files have been accepted/uploaded. Of course, the title is just a little misleading, since nothing is really attached, yet.
6. Click the tiny disclosure triangle to see the list of images/file you may have uploaded.
7. This is the tricky part: Click the file you want to actually attach.

There, that's at least three steps. wallbash.gif I suspect that you had only one image and even clicked the disclosure triangle but failed to actually select the only possible file available (stupid software!). Thus, the software assumed you are an idiot and gave you the oh so helpful error message. Since it already has the list of one file to attach, why not just attach it instead of bothering with an error message? rolleyes.gif Actually, the software, with just a bit of programming, could simply upload each file in sequence when asked or just the file you select, incase you want one more than once or some not at all. But, that would require thought about how the user would do things instead of how the programmer thinks it should be done. Besides, humans are so unreliable, confusing and demanding...

If the above is not what happened, maybe you really are in need of re-training! I know it helped me and only took 12 years! laughhard.gif

Maybe the button was 'asleep!' dntknw.gif

I am assuming that you were presented with a navigation dialog that would have allowed you to peruse your files...

Maybe it didn't like your funny British spelling. eek2.gif

Did you try again? This time holding your tongue differently?! tease.gif

Don't take TOO much notice of Jim..... biggrin.gif

At the risk of insulting your intelligence, when you went to the reply window, did you use the Browse button next to Upload to highlight the picture you wanted from your Mac? Press Browse and it will open a finder window so you can navigate to the picture. Once you find the picture it will show in the window to the right of Browse as (in my case) "Users/neilmcadam/Desktop/test.jpg"

It won't show in Preview - you will only see it once the reply message has been received at the TeeEss server. I haven't used your pic since I didn't want to steal your thunder smile.gif

Well, I knew I left one of the three steps out of that list of seven! blush-anim-cl.gif So, now there are eight! Like I said, it is easy to miss one of the buttons/steps, even if you've dun it rite uther tymes.

I think I remember 'gentle' posting images before, so I'm pretty sure she could, again, if she'd just stop listening to George! scram.gif

Neat posting, BTW, Neal, a screen capture of a post being created in a post,... Did you use two mirrors? rofl.gif

BTW#2, I would have sworn that I've seen the thumbnail image in the Preview display. Maybe you are saying that you can't click on the thumbnail and have it open as you can in viewing posts? Thinking.gif It's probably that tricky language thing, again. You "Brits" seem to have trouble with the American language, refusing to speak it, like the French refuse to use English? deadhorse.gif inspect.gif judge.gif nono.gif

Er, Jim, who gave you the language you speak.......surely you have heard of the pilgrim fathers!! whistling.gif

Pauline: I've emailed you.

Jim: You missed the opportunity to point out that I don't know right from left (situation of the window next to the Browse button). smile.gif Or were you just too polite? laughhard.gif  wink.gif

"Two polite!" That's never been associated with me, much less my name! laughhard.gif

OTOH (left or right!), sometimes different skins put stuff in different places. OTThirdH, I may not even noticed the side reference!! Actually, I thought you might be referring to the incorrect side of the road that "you guys" use! wink.gif Apparently, that relates to the language problem? To be a good American politian, you have to learn to speak out of sides sides of your mouth. 8|

As for where I lurnd too speek thu languaje, my father didn't have much to do with it, he was nearer to your location than to mine when I was just learning to talk (1943-44). wink.gif

Too many accounts or too much activity on that server, I would start the process of having it moved.
For some reason they never move the problem account, the account that is affected has to move to a new or less active server.

My 4 domains on ASO have just been hit with the same issue.
I can't wait to move them, soon very soon.

I've wasted far too much time with these server issues. I have other domains on other servers and never have an issue. I think their careless in selecting and monitoring customers on their servers, or they have a policy that allows too much activity per server to begin with.

I've experienced this type of dead zone on many evenings and I just pass by the site and don't send a ticket. This time  I happened to return some time later and found the same condition so I acted impulsively and opened a ticket.
I guess what I'm saying here is that this happens far more often than it is reported.
