Well, so much for that little "yes it does....no, maybe it doesn't" rumor. It does. And I'm pretty sure Apple didn't set out to deliberately break things - as several of the comments point out following the article. I'm sure they have better things to do, frankly.

I wasn't aware of Hackintoshes.  I read some of the comments following the article.  Interesting views on the subject.  People justify these hacks by saying Apple is charging too much for their hardware. I realize Apple computers aren't cheap but is it more that Apple doesn't build as cheap of a computer as companies like Dell.  If you compare Apple's low end $1000 laptop to a low end Dell, sure, the Dell is much much cheaper.  When you compare the specifications you can see why.  Match up the specifications with a comparable Dell and there isn't much of a difference.  Correct me if I am wrong?

Justifying illegal activity because something appears to be too high priced is another indication of the entitlement attitude that pervades society today.  dry.gif

iGuy - you are correct. I've done this comparison many times. The only way you can match specs and get a significantly lower price on the PC side is usually to build something yourself.

And that entitlement mentality drives me mad - especially when it come wrapped up in a whole lot of Apple-bashing. This is the same mentality exhibited by a lot of shoplifters. "I can't afford it, so I'm entitled to steal it." Guess who pays for this mentality? The rest of us!

Good point, krissel.  Look at what is happening to the movie industry.  I can't say I agree with the money some actors make but I am not going to pirate movies, especially on a day to day basis. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

It was sloppy work by Apple to begin with, the hack was easy to say the least.
Now Apple secured the software, as they should have done from jump street. They left the door open at your expense.
The entitlement argument can swing both ways... If Apple built a tight ship from the beginning it wouldn't have leaks.

From the beginning of this industry it has been an excepted practice to build sloppy programs and let the public unwillingly Beta Test them at their expense. Could anyone imagine a car being recalled as much? We've excepted this sloppy work as normal, but it's not normal it's a short cut, that the customer pays for with time, money and frustration. Lucky US that their are kids out there who get kicks from finding holes in the systems, it could be worse, it could be the real enemy.

These Hackintoshes have a lot of time and money invested in their craft and they keep Apple from becoming as sloppy as Micro Soft had. The Hackintoshes of today are the Apple engineers of the future. wink.gif
