Odered an Owc card a few months ago from Mac-pro
Hopfully "Owc" means "OWC" <http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/>. And "from" means and CPU upgrade card "for" your G4. If so, they sell many items with "NewerTech" labels, they are actually parts of the same company. Not sure what type card you want, Is it one of these: <MAXPower® G4/7447A/b]> or <MAXPower® G4/7448>. If it's one of those, OWC/NewerTech may just be confused about what you want. I think they are a very reliable outfit and I've had good contacts with them.
Jim, Mac-Pro.com sell OWC products. I think he ordered from them - I'm sure OWC wouldn't give him that sort of run around!

Didn't know that OWC had bought Newer Tech - interesting article here: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/The...orld_Computing/ - further confirms my faith in OWC and Larry.
He's also got good employees - always had terrific response when I've called about anything.

Nor am I stating as fact that OWC owns NewerTech. But if you surf over to "NewerTech.com" you'll see the standard OWC banner. So, "OWC" and "NewerTech" would be considered different names for the same product. I'm not sure there actually is an "OWC" labeled card.
That's why I think the problem is with the 'brand' in the communications with Mac-Pro.
This may be what they sent: <G4/7447A Processor running at 1.6GHz> The manufacturer (Freescale/Motorola) CPU speed (1.6GHz) and picture sure look identical to me.
I won't swear that either OWC or NewerTech owns the other, more likely they are just two parts of a larger group, even if they are separately managed. These kinds of organizational things aren't really unusual, MacMall and PCMall are really the same company, same as Mac Connection/PC Connection. As I said, I find it hard to believe "Larry" would be giving anyone a hard time. I still doubt that "NewerTech" actually makes any products, like Apple, the items they have their labels on are easily manufactured 'off-shore.' Their NewerTech hard drives, carry three-year warranties. So, even though they don't say what brand is inside the enclosure, I doubt they are the cheapest available.
I just like their enclosures for their size, quietness (with a fan) and their small footprint and the fact that one can stack other stuff on them.
But they are not the least expensive.
In the mean time, I hope ADSR is getting some acceptable messages and hardware from "Mac-Pro!"
Jim...you might want to read the article.
Larry bought Newer Tech in 2001.

One of the building blocks of OWC is Newer Technology. That company, formerly based in Wichita, was well-known for processor and memory upgrades in the 1990s. However, even as the company got into trouble, the original founder worked hard to take care of his customers before the company went under. In 2001, Mr. OiConnor bought Newer Technology for its name recognition and some core technologies. Today, it is the research arm of OWC. Products are designed at their joint facility in Woodstock, Illinois, fabricated by subcontractors, but ultimately assembled and packaged in Woodstock.
Doesn't say where the fab takes place (and yes, it may well be offshore) but Newer Tech make products just like Apple makes products.
Ain't no way ADSR is dealing with OWC.
I just made a suggestion to them regarding their international shipping info on their newly redesigned web site and got a very nice email back from Kayleen Ivers in response. It wasn't a canned response, either. So I made some further suggestions (hoping they'll add USPS/Canada Post as a shipping option, since brokerage is a flat $5, which is waaaaay less than the robbers at UPS and your former employer charge.
) Just to be clear...I have no quibbles about the delivery service itself - it's the darn brokerage, which is pretty simple on things for which the shipper has provided all the required paperwork. If Canada Post can do it for $5, there is no excuse for UPS (for instance) charging $19 MINIMUM on anything costing more than $20.
