I think he meant to say starting at the stern and moving forward. Otherwise the overlaps would be facing the water flow. Same with shingles on a house, you want the water to be flowing the same way the shingles overlap, downstream.

But I usually enjoy their shows, especially when they get to "blow stuff up!" And they almost always seem to try to work that in!

Yup, it's not hard to start at the bow and move aft... unless you want to swim...

Well, at least I got that part right...

But, as I understand it, the "bow" is the 'front' of the boat. If you start layering the sheets from that point aft (toward the stern?) each new layer will have its exposed edge on top of the previous one, that is, toward the bow, front, the direction the water is coming from, the direction the boat normally moves. This is not where you want the edges of the layers. Rather, one should start at the stern and work forward. making the overlap at the ending edge of the new layer. just like you place the first rom of shingles on the lower edge of the roof and work upward. This places the exposed edges pointing away from the direction of the water flow.

Now, that said, one can normally put either show on first. Actually, either pants leg can be first, also. Maybe applies to sleeves...but none of those relate to roofs.

Now, where were we?

If they were building the boat on the outside of the framework you would be correct. But they were laying down the sheets inside a mold so one would reverse the usual layering order.

Details, details, details, boat tails...I build all my ice boats on a frame of carefully carved ice cycles! It seems they didn't even get that right! But I refuse to "bow!"
