'You are old, Father William', the young man said, 'And your hair has become very white; And yet you incessantly stand on your head -- Do you think, at your age, it is right?'
'In my youth', Father William replied to his son, 'I feared it might injure the brain; But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none, Why, I do it again and again.'
'You are old', said the youth, 'as I mentioned before, And have grown most uncommonly fat; Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door -- Pray, what is the reason of that?
'In my youth', said the sage, as he shook his grey locks, 'I kept all my limbs very supple By the use of this ointment - one shilling the box - Allow me to sell you a couple?'
'You are old', said the youth, 'and your jaws are too weak For anything tougher than suet; Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak - Pray, how did you manage to do it?'
'In my youth', said his father, 'I took to the law, And argued each case with my wife; And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw, Has lasted the rest of my life.'
'You are old', said the youth, 'one would hardly suppose That your eye was as steady as ever; Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose - What made you so awfully clever?'
'I have answered three questions, and that is enough,' Said his father, 'don't give yourself airs! Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff? Be off, or I'll kick you downstairs!
From Mr. Carroll and moi, the very, very best of birthday cheers.

With all the poetry here both quoted and written, Truly you might find yourself to be smitten, With all the best wishes that we can all muster, We at TS are putting more shine on the luster,

I know, it's short, I can't even begin to fathom the talents of Mr. Peairs, but what an awesome achievement, I do hope you keep celebrating for at least a week!
All the best,
Chris

Where to begin? that is the question. That is as far as MY poetic skills take me. I thank you all for your kind thoughts and good wishes which I appreciate very much. I hear tell that midnight oil has been burnt in the production of Dick's wonderful ode (thank you Krissel). I also hear that my daughter has been delving into the family archives to provide the said Mr Peairs with the relevant details (thank you Pauline). Harv, I know that I am NOW as old as Father William nevertheless thank you for the reminder. Chris, I do know of your musical prowess, do you think you could set your contribution to music? Neil, to date I am unaware of any hardware goodies winging their way to me. Mr Kenword, you are obviously a well read and educated man with your reference to the Stone Age (or is it Iron Age) name for an inhabitant from north of the English border, but then you already know that. Kimmer, thank you for the cake, the birthday feast took place roughly two weeks ago nearer to Pauline's birthday we as a family dined at a rather posh restaurant and very good it was. Kathy, Jack and ABD thank you for your good wishes. Peter (IOM) where have you been hiding? it really was very kind of you to surface to offer felicitations and good wishes. Finally I must backtrack to the contribution from one of my favourite (and I make no apology for that) iSighters or iChatterer (never know which) Dick, I know that the use of your admirable poetic skills are restricted to others more worthy than me I therefore take it as a compliment that you elevate me to "Dick's Poetic List" Have I missed anyone? if so, my apologies. George
