Title: Recurring error message during software updates
Post by: RNKIII on June 16, 2010, 05:17:55 PM
Have gotten this message during the updating of Snow Leopard and iTunes 9.2

[attachment=1890:screenshot10.jpg]

Can anyone give me a clue as to what (may be the problem) or why it has only recently shown up..

Other than the 2 updates mentioned above I have not (knowingly) added any new or updated any other software recently.

TIA,  Bob

Think it's something to do with your Canon Scanner.

Read to the bottom - it's possible that it can be deleted. (try dragging it to the desktop and seeing if the problem goes away)

Have you looked to see if your Canon software needs updating by any chance?

You have a CanoScan LiDE 500F. The file that you are seeing this message from is a kernel extension that makes your scanner software automatically start running when you push one of the buttons on the front of the scanner. It is not compatible with OS X 10.6 and should be deleted.

Thanks all for your links and assistance.

Have reinstalled drivers for Canon scanner (again) as I did have the most current......   Now will see if the message shows up again during some installation.  At least then I'll know what it is (hopefully I'll remember) and will ignore it.  Trying to remove it from its current location only copies it, not a complete removal...

Again  Thank You!! for your assistance.

That happens because you are not allowed to change the Kernel Extenstions folder without typing a password. If you want to remove something from the Kernel Extensions folder, do not drag it to a different place. Drag it to the Trash. You will be asked to type your password. (If you want to keep it, you can then drag it out of the Trash to some other place later.)

Thank you, Tacit, for a very helpful and informative reply....
Had just tried to 'remove' it from the folder to my desktop... will now 'remove' it to the trash
