My sub to MacWorld ends with the July issue and I just can't abide the $35 cost for another year. I'm afeared that I don't get $35 worth of info out of it these days...
I get "professional discounts" on most of my magazine subscriptions and out-right discounts such as $29 a year for The New Yorker vs. the advertised $49.95 rate.
Is anyone getting MW for less than the standard fare?

Mayo,
Yes!
Just don't reup and if they follow they senerio that they did with me you'll get it for FREE.
I dropped my subsubscription a year ago. They have been sending it to me for free ever since.
Don't send in the cards they send you to reup all the time. They send me one every month and
I throw it in the garbage.
They just keep sending them to me....without the CD.
I don't mind and it doesn't bother me a bit.

My MW subscription ran out and I did not renew (cost vs. benefit again). Then as soon as I bought a new computer and registred it with Apple, MW started coming again.
The lesson here? Buy a new computer and get MW free!

Mayo, I just renewed my subscription for $14.97! I did get those "professional discount" cards, offering to renew my subscription for $35 - but those are a SCAM. They're third party - and making a healthy profit too. You should have gotten a renewal letter with your mag offering it for $14.97 for a year. If you didn't, CALL them!!
You can renew online for $19.97 (or $34 for 2 years) - I have NO idea why they have all these different rates. Even Amazon offers it for $19.97.
The phone number for the subscription department is is 1-800-288-6848

Paddy, thanks for the numbers. I don't remember ever paying $35/year, but so far all the renewal offers have been for that amount.
The "pro discounts" I have taken advantage of have been quite a bit cheaper than typical rates, or I wouldn't have bothered with them. On occasion I have received the type of offer you referred to, and they are indeed rip-offs.
I may wait and see if any free copies come my way, then contact MacWorld regarding the $15/year subscription rate. That seems reasonable to me; anything higher and I will probably pass.

Mayo, when cruising around the MacWorld magazine portion of the site, I also noticed that they now offer an electronic version of the magazine. Same $19.97, but no paper unless you decide to print it out. You get it immediately too. I would imagine more and more magazines will start to provide this option. Somewhat attractive - I could just print the articles I want to keep for handy reference! Still...kinda nice to be able to take a magazine to the beach...or outside in the garden. I am NOT taking my Powerbook to the beach!!!

Mayo,
When I didn't renew, they called me on the phone and asked me why. I told them I wasn't running OSX at the time and that there wasn't alot of stuff in the mag that interested me.
Anyways, the mag still shows up every month and they send me final notices all the time and i ignore them. Go figure.

The cheapest price for magazine subscriptions is $0.00 - but you have to give up some of your frequent flyer miles. Macworld is one of the mags offered for "free" in the offer I received recently.

Doesn't MacCentral have an ongoing free year of macworld popup? That's what I did a while back. I haven't payed in years, but I keep getting copies.

I started reading Mac Design recently. I like it a lot better. They have a guy who writes a good column on digital photography (actually very helpful, unlike most of those articles). One was on lighting. He doesn't try to sell you things. They also have good Flash, GoLive, Dreamweaver and other articles, that are kind of like tutorials. And even though they're fiercely Mac-centric, a PC user would also get a lot out of it.
