Title: TS Problems
Post by: Jack W on July 19, 2010, 01:01:20 PM
Hi y'all

Got a couple of problems with TS:

1) The Options button at the top of each forum no longer works like it used to.
I used to click and hold on it and it would have a drop-down menu that included 'Clear unread and return' or some such thing.
Now, when I click and hold, nuthin' happens, and then when I releas, it just jumps to the bottom of the page.

2) The little forum selector at the botton of the forum page also stopped working. I used to be able to click on the window and select a different forum, release, and away it would go. Now it just leaves the new forum selection in the window, and I have to click the Go button.

3) And I just noticed that the cute little icon dropdown has dissapeared. No more :smiley faces: and :teardrops: and :Thanks: emoticons.
The "Enable emoticons" and "Enable signature" boxes are both checked at the bottom of the Post New Topic screen.

This sounds like my personal TS preferences got mucked up. But I haven't been there for several weeks. I guess I gotta try that next.

These just started happening the last couple of days.

What the hey did I screw up now????

Jack, they're still working fine for me, so try dumping your Safari cache, and logging in and out of TS to see if that helps any.

Same here. Maybe just change a pref and open a thread or two and then go back and set it back to what you want. You probably already have javascript enabled or you'd see a hugely different board... Or, it could just be you're too close to Lake Weird! eek2.gif

No answer on the board prob, but the post prob was html coding that snuck in there somehow. I cleaned it out. Hopefully I got your message correct.

Um...how'd you manage to get all that HTML code in there, Jack?  blink.gif

Which browser were you using to post that with??

You could try creating another user account (in OS X, not here!) and seeing if all the strangeness continues. If not, then you'll at least know that it's something screwy to do with your user account and you can work from there.

Just dumped firefox folder in Applications Support (to desktop) .

All problems cured.

Now to restore the ff folder back into App Support,

and try to figure out what caused the problem

gofigure

 (to desktop)

If it's possible, it might be easier to just D/L the latest FF and then repace your 'profile' folder/file from that folder on your Desktop? Ateast everything else would be clean and well ironed! rofl.gif

Hi Jim,

The problem appears to be within the "Profiles" folder.

The hard part will be to figure out the culprit.

I won't have much time to work on it soon, since I am leaving Saturday to meet my kids at a cottage on Lake Huron for a week.

Boy, is that going to be fun!

I'll let you all know what I find out when I find it.

But, in the meantime, Safari is working well.

No problems in Safari, West of the Olentangy! Or the Platte. Or the Colorado. Or the Sacramento!

Now that helps a lot, doesn't it!

Jack, here's a handy list of the Mozilla files found in your profile and what they are:

http://gemal.dk/mozilla/files.html

You won't have all of them, and some of them are Windows-only, but they'll give you a good idea of what might be corrupted and what could be removed.

I'd try removing the Cache files first. If that doesn't have any effect, then I'd remove the prefs files (both of them) - move them to the desktop if you want, or just trash them. Depends how long it will take you to reset any preferences. (in my case, not long)

Also, do you have any add-ons or extensions installed that might be causing trouble?

Hi Paddy.

I have the following add-ons installed:

AddBlockPlus 1.2.1
Flashblock 1.5.13
FlashGot 1.2.1.27
Garman Communicator 2.9.2
GoogleSharing 0.19
NoScript 1.10
UserAgentSwitcher 0.7.2

These were not updated until after I started having the problems.

I will try your suggestion.

Thanks, Jack

Paddy,

I tried trashing all-things cache to no avail.

So I trashed the 'firefox' folder (actually moved it to the desktop temporarily.

Then restarted and chose 'import stuff from Safari

That fixed my previous problems, however, now I cannot edit this message.

I can only insert new text at the beginning or end.

And, of course, all my add-ons have to be redone.

And my bookmarks are different.

Don't we have fun???

Thanks, Jack

A little more checking, adding add-ons back in one-at-a-time says

NoScript 1.10 was the culprit!!!!!!

Disabled him eliminated my original problems.

Still have the problem of not being able to edit within the current editing session.

Since you eliminated NoScript, check AdBlockPlus and see if you have any domain with "techsurvivor.net" listed. I believe the forums are using PHP to communicate back and forth with your browser and the server. There may be a particular address that is accessed when editing. dntknw.gif But it still sounds more like a weird System problem, except that FF is the only thing affected. The app should be simply calling the System text-editing routines in that text box.

JIm, There are no rules in my AdBlock Plus.

I will look for opporunities to check out other sites text boxes.

I even went a step further and fired up my backup disk and copied the 'firefox' folder back in.

Then de-activated NoScript 1.10.

Same quirky behavior on TS.

So, now I'm back to my Safari bookmarks.

I tried replacing the 'bookmarks' file— still got the Safari bookmarks.

Anyway, I better start packing for my Friday trip.

Back to this weirdness when I get back on August 1.

THX everybody.

I'm learning a lot.

Packing on Wednesday for a Friday trip?! That would take me almost 30 minutes! rofl.gif Of course, I spent most of my working life packing and unpacking every day... rolleyes.gif laughhard.gif

BTW, did you see the  two questions I posted <here>?

No matter, have a grand trip and visit with your kids! yes.gif But, be careful, I think Huron empties into Lake Weird! And it may pick up certain contaminants passing by Detroit!!! eek2.gif

Problem resolved with updating NoScript to V2.0

At least, I think that this was the problem that was fixed by updating to V2.

The TS editing problem was cured by going into 'My Controls' and:

My Controls > Board Settings > 'Type of Text Editor' > changed to Standard Editor from Rich Text Editor

Voila!!!

even tho note says RTE should work with firefox. It might have have been screwed up with V3.6.8 since that was about the time I updated ff.

Life is now good, once again. And, it doesn't hurt at all that I have a new lady friend! A very lovely Swiss Miss!
