My iMac can handle only 6GB total and I'm not sure I want a 2GB and a 4GB stick in there, the 4GB is very expensive, anyway. ~$96 from OWC.
I have an older iMac (please do feel sorry for me - LOL!) and it can handle 3GB total. I went from 2 512MB sticks to a 1GB and a 2GB and it works just grand. So go for it and have fun.

Anyone heard of this model iMac actually using 6GB.
To figure out my ram, I went here:
http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx
and downloaded their "scanner". It showed me exactly what I had installed and what my machine could handle. I took a screen cap of it, talked it over with Sneakers, checked prices and bought from OWC because they had a slightly better deal. But "crucial.com" was highly recommended by the local Mac shops, so I have no prob telling you to give them a try.
And Krissel, I do remember those prices. :-/
