"Modest." Will certainly be one of the "Understatements of the Year." It's even more modest than the description by the article's author! I only count three bedrooms and a play room on that left-hand end. Then the Master bedroom and bath at the extreme other end of the house. Indicates a wise man who doesn't want to be disturbed by the "rackets of youth!" But, would it be safe to assume that all guests and/or children will be of the same sex? Otherwise, I'm not sure I'd build one, unisex bathroom, even if it is efficient! rofl.gif

Maybe a morbid thought, but what are those 12 rectangles in the lower, left-hand part of the 'plan?' Sure looks like a small cemetery layout to me... eek2.gif Maybe that's just because of the month... laughhard.gif

I realize I'm comparing apples and oranges rolleyes.gif , but an $8.45 million, 4,910 square feet single family home isn't my idea of modest. I guess in the upper circles it is modest, but ... whatever. I'll also say that I'm glad it's not going to be my home as I don't care for the layout -- but to each his/her own.

His kids were born in 1991 (Reed - spitting image of his father, BTW, judging by a couple of published photos), Erin in 1994 and another daughter, Eve sometime after that, so I bet that his son is off at university now and the girls are sharing the bath - which only has a shared double sink area, actually (2 separate showers & toilet areas). I think it's a good layout - certainly better than the idiotic houses some builders have built around here with itsy-bitsy bedrooms because they each have ensuite baths.

BTW - from what I've read, these are preliminary plans, not final ones. I think I'd be a little uncomfortable having my house plans published on the internet....

The actual square footage of Jobs' new house is pretty typical of a higher end suburban house these days, but the amount of money being spent on construction of that house is in the realm of 5 to 8X the normal per foot construction cost. The expected construction time is also considerably longer than normal - I would expect that the materials and craftsmanship will be topnotch.

And I bet it won't take 100 computers to run the house!!! wink.gif (So, how many IT people does Bill employ at home, anyway?)

I'm sure he could make a deal for the Taj Mahal or the White House if he wanted to! wink.gif He could also buy one of the $150,000,000 houses that the Wall Street Journal showed as being "almost" unsellable in Friday's issue!  He's settling for that sweet spot that speaks "home" to him and the rest of us can go fish!
