The former head of the Computer Programming Department at KU had a little museum in an old school house next to the rugby/soccer fields. He had huge old everything including old modems that were truly something prehistoric almost. I love the old things but I'm glad I don't have to use them!

My first modem was an Acoustic Coupler - you inserted the telephone handset [sized to fit a Western Electric telephone] into the modem. I used this along w/ a 'dumb terminal' to connect to a friend's Mini-Vax @ his business so that I could logon and play DND evenings & weekends.
