Title: Monitor Screen Dim

Help, please!
I s my imac Desktop, OS  10.4.11, trying to tell me it is dying?  I can barely read what I am writing.
This is what I have:


  Model Name:   iMac
  Model Identifier:   iMac4,1
  Processor Name:   Intel Core Duo
  Processor Speed:   1.83 GHz
  Number Of Processors:   1
  Total Number Of Cores:   2
  L2 Cache (per processor):   2 MB
  Memory:   1.5 GB
  Bus Speed:   667 MHz
  Boot ROM Version:   IM41.0055.B08
  SMC Version:   1.1f5
BANK 0/DIMM0:

  Size:   1 GB
  Type:   DDR2 SDRAM
  Speed:   667 MHz
  Status:   OK

I recently installed Turbotax, and everything went slower after that, not a lot, but noticeable.  Then, yesterday, it dimmed way down. Restarting seems to brighten it for several hours.
Any suggestions would be WILDLY WELCOME, as I am in the middle of our taxes and can't see the screen well at all!

WHOOPS!  I just discovered the "Brightness"  option in System preferences, Display !  PROBLEM SOLVED!  
Thanks everyone, anyway.  Don't know how it happened!

You may have accidentally pressed a keyboard combo that dimmed the display. Open System Preferences > Keyboard&Mouse and go to the Keyboard Shortcuts tab. (I'm using 10.6 and this system is slightly different but I seem to remember one K&M preference pane in 10.4.) You should be able to disable the offending keyboard shortcut.

FWIW, F14 decreases brightness in my system and F15 increases it. I don't know if it's the same for you.

Do you have a cat by any chance?

Mine strolls across keyboards and input tablets...causing havoc.

If you have one of the aluminum keyboards, the brightness keys are F1 and F2. There is no F14 or F15 on these keyboards (no room!)
