Title: Adobe CS3 Problem

I'm trying to clear out problems on my log and I've got a big Intel iMAC (27") running OS 10.6.6 and it has CS3 on it and since Aver+ was installed on it it is having a great deal of trouble opening Photoshop files.  It will now lock up every time instead of opening the darn file. . .this is the same misbehavior after reinstalling CS3 as before!   wallbash.gif Any ideas, Adobe doesn't seem to have any relief!

I wanted to solve this before now but I've got surgery on my rotator cuff tomorrow so I won't really be able to do anything for a week or two at least!

I assume you've tried doing Get Info on whatever file types CS3 might want to use and specifying it as the appropriate app to open them. Of course, if Aver+ also uses those file suffixes, there will still be a conflict and you'll have to decide which suffix which app should "own." A control-click on a file will give you the choice of an app to open it, but that's certainly not like the double-click method. dntknw.gif

Now for the important stuff; I hope you have someone to drive you back and forth! My wife had a problem a few years ago and one of the doctors nurses asked her if she minded letting her watch the procedure. The nurse said she'd only seen it once before and the patients arm was broken during the arm's movement! laughhard.gif They don't call it 'breaking the lock up' for nothing! eek2.gif OUCH! You might want to wear some earplugs, also. The 'crack' may frighten you... But I'm sure there are new, safer, quieter methods now-a-days. I sure hope so, for your sake! scram.gif

I just tried to do a "repair" from the CS3 DVD and you can open a file (for example a PSD file format which is native to Photoshop) and it will open but if you go to the menu bar to do anything you get the spinning beachball and Photoshop stops responding.  This is Aver+ MAC V 1.5.1 and all it is supposed to do is provide an interface between the Avermedia document camera (a video camera on a gooseneck) and the MAC.  I'm not sure this is "really" the problem but he has 28 other (student) computers with the same software licensed on it except the Avermedia stuff! Thinking.gif It's a puzzlement!  

Well, he's no worse off than he was but I do wonder about this! I'm going to relax during the surgery and let the young doctor (I believe he's pass puberty) do all of the work!

I'm not sure about how compatible CS3 is with 10.6. For me, CS3 opened fine as did the relevant applications but I couldn't get good results making prints (although they were fine when I had 10.5). I bought CS5 and that solved the problem. For more information, see Photoshop related product known issues with Mac OS X 10.6.

I'd contact the Aver+ Tech Support to see if there are any drivers that are installed deep in the OS input manager area. They should, at least, be able to offer some suggestions with CS3. OTOH, that is fairly old software, and not without known problems on the Mac... dntknw.gif

The problems I have seen with Photoshop on Leopard and Snow Leopard generally fall into one of several categories:

- Font problems. Photoshop will often choke, crash, freeze, bring up the spinning beachball, or otherwise malfunction if you have a corrupt font on the system, it is quite likely that this is the source of your trouble. Disable all non-system fonts and see if that helps.

- Adobe Bridge problems. I've had a lot of trouble with Bridge on Leopard and Snow leopard. Remove it with your installer and see if that helps.

- A bad plugin, most *especially* a bad scanner or multifunction printer/scanner plugin. These may be located in the Photoshop plugins folder (usually in Import/Export), or in your TWAIN Data Sources folder which is in your Image Capture folder inside your Library folder on your hard drive. Remove any plugins in Import/Export in the Photoshop plugins folder or in your TWAIn folder and see what happens.

Those are the first places I'd look. If oyu still keep having problems, post back and we can try another round of troubleshooting!

Thsnks Tacit; I wouldn't have assumed Fonts but I read an almost horrific tale of what someone went through to clear a font problem off!
