Title: How to prevent a HD frtom mounting at Startup
Post by: MamaMoose on June 22, 2003, 12:00:01 AM
I have an external FireWire hard disk which contains OS 9.2.2 as a boot partition and some associated partitions. This hard disk was formatted using HardDisk ToolKit in OS 9.2.2. This OS 9.2.2 is also Classic as I am running now exclusively in OS 10.2.4.

Evertime I startup, all the partitions associated with the FW HD show up cluttering my desktop. I have booted from a CD containing OS 9.2.2 and using HardDisk ToolKit, I checked "Do not mount at startup" for each partition. But that doesn't work in OS 10.2.4. What I can do is move one of the partitions to the trash and all the partitions are unmounted.

My question is can I set up OS 10.2.4 so that none of the partitions mount during startup? Or do I ve to unmount them amnually?

MM.
Not sure about 10.2.4 but you can hide them in finder > preference in 10.2.6.
See if that feature is there.

Just a note from the trailing edge....

I have an ole Emerson UPS with five plugs and on/off on the front for each one. My firewire is in #2 and just flip the switch when I need the external to get/save something. Off when I'm done.

There must be a better way but this works great for me.

I didn't know what "hot pluggable" was until I got away from SCSI (month ago).
