Title: Odd items showing BACK up in Disk Utility

I last launched disk utility a week or so ago. I used it to mount an external drive. Nothing odd showed up at that time. Upon launching disk utility just a bit ago, I saw "decryptedFile.dmg" and "flash player". You can see the path to the decryptedFile in the attached image:

I was able to mount the flash player and then eject it. I did download and install an upgrade to Adobe flash player the other day, so I'm guessing that somehow it remained behind even though I was sure I'd ejected the installer.

Having ejected the flash player, that left the odd "decryptedFile.dmg". I clicked the link in disk utility and it opened the window where this lives. Here's the "info" on this file, with a date of September 22, 2011.

I don't remember downloading anything, but shoot - that's almost 3 wks. ago. wink.gif  So, what now? Any ideas what this is? Delete it? Launch it? Leave it be?

Also, any idea why the flash player hung around after being ejected.

I would never recommend installing/opening any disk image (or any other downloaded file, for that matter) if you don't know exactly where it came from, even on a Mac. Paranoid.gif

If your latest install/update of Flash Player is running OK, I'd simply delete the .dmg. I think they upgraded the player just a few weeks ago, that may be when you downloaded it. There might even be a post in the "Recent Updates" thread. dntknw.gif

As for why the file "remained behind" I assume it's because Adobe doesn't do much of anything the way Apple suggests/provides. rolleyes.gif

While I still don't know why the Flash Player was left behind (I seldom reboot my iMac), I do know that I downloaded it and updated my Flash Player. So I'm just curious as to why it might have hung around.

Now, the "decryptedFile.dmg" really concerns me. If anyone has any clues what this is and is it safe to trash it, please speak up. smile.gif

Bumping this up because the blasted "decryptedFile.dmg" is BACK and I haven't upgraded my FlashPlayer.  upset.gif

Do you still have the original installer dmg on your drive?
Do you have any 'strange' items in your Startup Items list?

1. Did you not only put it in the trash but did you actually empty the trash?
2. Have you done a through search (and I don't mean Spotlight) for the name of that dmg? Thinking.gif
3. Did you happen to bookmark the site from where you made the download?
4. When was the last time you emptied your browser Caches?
5. Are you letting Snaekers use your Mac?! eek2.gif

I'm basically trying to determine if that dmg might still be around and being opened, even accidentally and especially without your knowledge.

Good thought. The only place my iMac might be pulling it from would be the TimeMachine backups, but wouldn't I have to go retrieve it from there?

I also wondered if Adobe FlashPlayer updated itself automagically when I wasn't at the iMac?
