Title: It was a winter wonderland!
Post by: kimmer on March 13, 2012, 11:29:57 PM
Apparently I took down this avatar too soon:

because last night (3/12) we received a nice bit of snow -- about 5 inches total in our yard. More or less in the surrounding areas. Must admit it was beautiful, although standing on the front porch watching the snow silently fall, and seeing the icicles hanging off our gutter made me think I'd moved back to Illinois. tongue.gif Still, it was fun. Wasn't fun today when I had to go to a meeting, but fortunately my friend was also going and her hubby drove us there and back again in his 4-wheel drive moose truck. Anyhow, for your viewing pleasure (or not), here's some photos SOOC (straight out of the camera). All I did was crop them.

From porch across driveway to street -- I like the orange glow from the street light.

Shivering rhoddies

Continued in next post ...

Okay, I can't seem to post the rest of the pic. I just get a "the following errors were found" with no errors listed. I'll try again in a bit.

Well, all I can say is "better you than me".  Aside from a few inches back in January and the disastrous Halloween storm, we have had the warmest winter ever and one of the driest.

Forgot to mention in first post: Earlier yesterday (3/12), it was in the mid-40's and we were driving through torrential rain, with wind around 50mpg, and gusts from 70 to 90mpg. We were blowing all over the road. Then the rain stopped and it was quiet for a bit, and then, the snow. Weirdest winter I've seen yet here on the Oregon coast.

Looking across front yard around 1pm today (3/13) shows a lot of the snow had melted. As of tonight, there's still a lot of snow out there, as well as slush and now it's all freezing again.

This bush blooms (normally) in the summer. Have no idea what it will do this year.

kimmer,

Why am I not seeing the pictures you posted?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I was just wondering if snow in Oregon looks like snow in NE Ohio.

Jack

P.S. Didn't show in firefox, OK in Safari.
BTW, welcome back to the mid-west.
Incidentally, the weather here the last few days has been spectacular, sunny with temps in the 60's. Gotta love it!

This P.S. added in Safari.

Nice pics, and yes, snow in OR looks just like snow in NE OH!

O.K., now what have I done in ff to mess up again????

P.S.S. Problem not in ff, appears to be in Little Snitch. This may take a while !!!

P.S.S.S. Found that little bugger.
Had to allow TCP connections to Port 80 in Little Snitch..

But that brings up an interesting point — What does that open me up to???

Port 80 is usually used by http access. It's normal, AFAIK. Of course, the web is what it will "open you up to!" eek2.gif laughhard.gif

But I must disagree that snow in OR nor even TN looks the same as snow in OH! Your snow usually lasts way too long and becomes extremely dirty! We don't allow snow more than once a year and it must be gone before it changes from pure white! yes.gif I think the problem is due to many northerners (especially those in control of the weather) moving south for the Winter and then deciding not to return to the ice/snow!!! Sorry 'bout that!

Living on the OR coast seems to allow for extreme speed in the changes of weather. Moving a few miles further east, on the other side of the mountains/hills would allow a significant decrease in those speeds! Of course, the terrain would not be as interesting, either! dntknw.gif

We're already having 80 degree weather! May have to get the fish pond spruced up a bit and start feeding the crowd/school!

Back to no pics.

And, I don't think I changed anything since it was working this morning.

Krissel, we'll take it. It was kinda fun, although when the power went out while I was standing on the front porch and it was so dark that I couldn't see my hand in front of my face and wasn't sure how I was going to find the door to get back inside -- now that wasn't a lot of fun. laugh.gif Still, today we are back to heavy rain and 70mph winds. My county got hit the hardest with the snow, so we made all the news reports. Whee! HAHAHA
