Title: Differences in Ram
Post by: Kruser on July 12, 2003, 07:00:38 PM
There was a topic on differances in Ram, Quite long, i believe it was on PC133 SDRAM, Not PC100 vs Pc133. I tried search at least 10 times, also tried archives for 15 pages. No luck.
It had to be in the last 2 or 3 months. I believe it was about how many chips on the board was best.
Any help!. THANK YOU.

Normally, it makes absolutely no difference how many chips are on the board. The only time this matters is with certain older computers--beige G3 systems, Blue and White G3s, and so on, which can not use what's called "high density" RAM.
High density RAM is RAM made with fewer chips. For example, some 256MB DIMMs have 4 chips, some have 8. DIMMs with 4 chips won't work in older computers; the computer will only "see" 128MB.
With modern computers, it doesn't matter at all.

As I recal, this also mattered on with 1 MB chips in the old MacPLus. I think you couldn't use 1MB RAM sticks with only 2 chips on it. But that really isn't a modern machine either

I've found the best way to use the search here is wait for krissel to see this thread. She'll find more than one.

Thank you one and all. That was the topic that i was looking for. I'm going to buy a 512 mb ram, for my G4 933 that hasa133mz bus speed. I calls for a 168 pin,64bit wide, 8ns, pc133 SDRAM, 3.3v, Is this the same chip used in a I Pod?. It ranges from $59 to $99. Is there any difference except for the Hi density, and the supplier?. Thaaaaaaaanks a lot.

iPods use memory that is built into their very small motherboard, it can't be upgraded.
To find the exact memory you need, goto www.macsales.com Those people at OWC will know precisely what you need, and will sell it to you for a good price.

Yeah. What GM said. <gr> iPod and the 933 memory are apples and oranges. Haven't checked in some time on memory for the 933. $75-$100 sounds about right for a 512 C2 2-2-2 stick.
