If it was possible, we'd be paying our rent or property taxes to Bill Gates.

It's called a "running gag", Marcel.
A couple of years ago there was a very official-appearing Press Release purportedly from "Microsoft" describing the pending purchase by Mr. Gates and his minions of the Vatican!
M$, as I recall, subsequently had to issue a "retraction" of something they/it hadn't distributed in the first instance.
Ah, satire . . .

Highmac, Re the Fitness / Irony photo. That is not an escalator in the standard sense. Rather, it is one of those exercise machines where the steps go backwards and thus one must run really-really fast to get to the top.
I know that is true because Bernie told me so.

Whew...I finally made it. Remember me ? June Drabek from Senior net ? I now have an eMac 10.2.2 and I love it. Also a new ISP that seems to be working out very well. I also have a second Great-Grandaughter since I last spoke to you all.Good to be back, but I do have a lot to learn.

KELLY..I think I was June all the time, but I did have a different email then. I now have pe.net, and before had netquest.net. I see your format has changed a bit since I was last here about a year ago.I have graduated to an eMac now so I do have a bit more speed and hopefully will be able to keep up with all of you here, as well as my Sr. Net program. I did miss you all.
GREG, at 78 years of age I had darned well better have a good sense of humor, or just go dig a hole and crawl in. Laughter is natures best medicine.

Where is the best place to ask a question about the eMac keyboard?

kelly, she says she came over from Senior Net, and you're asking her if she used another name here before. What were you thinking?
kind of an anti-climax after all that

Gregg...
I am not sure where to ask my question, so I'll just plow in here and see what happens. Is there a way to start the eMac using the keyboard ? There is no single button here but I am wondering if there is a combination of keys that will do it, and also shut it down.

June, I don't know about the eMac. You'd be better off hitting the New Topic button and asking your question. It will get more attention that way. You do have a New Topic button don't you? It should be next to the New Poll button, unless you've misplaced it.

June. I don't know e-Macs but I doubt it.
CONTROL-CD Eject Key will bring up Shutdown Dialouge Box.
The New Topics Button is in the upper right corner of this site.

Thank you Greg and Kelly, I wasn't sure if it were proper to start a new message, so I am learning. What is the PM button for at the lower part of the box where the messages are read? And is there a way to unsubscribe so there is only email pertaining to ones own message ?
Title: Which TS-er lives in Delaware?
Post by: jepinto on July 28, 2003, 04:27:44 PM
June: The PM button is to send a Private Message to any board member; useful if you don't have an email address, or if the member prefers to keep address private. Your email address will display in the PM, but you won't see the receipent's email address.
And it it ALWAYS proper to start a new message; we do tend to "hijack" threads and sometimes the origial topic gets lost.
For unsubscribing, at the top of each page is a link "My Controls". Go to it, and on the left hand side, about half way down is "Subscriptions". Click on "View Topics" and choose which topics you would like to unsubscribe from (yeah, my grammer ain't none too good), and do the same with "View Forums". I'd suspicion that you've acidentaly click on "Track this topic" or "Subscribe to this forum" at the bottom of one of the thread pages.
I haven't typed that much in some time.

Hi June,
The eMac is one of the machines (flat panel iMacs also) that uses the power button on the unit to restart, sleep, shut down in emergency.
Here are some uses:
Sleep: Press the power button for 1 second to put the computer to sleep. To wake the computer from sleep, press the power button for less than one second or press any key on the keyboard.
Shut down: To shut down the computer, select Shut Down from the Apple menu (Mac OS X) or from the Special menu (Mac OS 9). You will be prompted to save any unsaved documents.
If the computer is unresponsive, you can force the computer to shut down by pressing the power button and holding it for at least 5 seconds. Important: Information in any unsaved documents may be lost.
Keyboard commands can restart but not start up computer.
Here is the Apple discussion board for eMac users. You might want to read some of the threads for insight.

June: I told a small untruth. The sender's email address does NOT show in a PM.
It is a way for communicating "off board" with any member allowing private messages without either having to disclose an email.
We've set the board to not show email addresses of any one for privacy concerns. However, if you wish to share your address with another member, you can email through the board software and the sender's email IS shown.
Clear as mud?

Krissel..thank you so much for the clickable..I will investigate it promptly. My reason for asking for keyboard shut downs is because one day my mouse suddenly hid the cursor and I had no recourse but to pull the power plug. Frightening to say the least..not knowing what damage I may do. Fortunately all was well.
Jenny, I don't think you would ever tell an untruth..it was just a minor error. You are very kind and patient.
