Title: The Internet of Things better left off intenet!
Post by: gunug on July 08, 2015, 08:11:09 AM
This Macedonia engineering student has set up a bread making machine to be controlled via a server by an internet connection:

The movie of this with screen shots in Greek is here:

Can anyone think of things less likely to need an internet connection?

I don't have enough time to even categorize them, much less count them! Who would have ever imagined that server companies had marketing departments! laughhard.gif On the other hand, after creating "clouds", there were no limits! I do believe <David Hannum> was correct, "There's a sucker born every minute!" On the third hand (virtual, cloud-based, of course), it could be important to know that the commode tank was empty even though no one was home... Thinking.gif eek2.gif scram.gif

After viewing he vid (is anyone concerned about my lack of marginally important things I should be doing?), it seems to me that there is much work remaining. Too many times the human hand was used!Perhaps that abundance of time is why this was done in Greece; currently suffering from an unemployment rate of 25% with ATM withdrawals limited to ~60€ (possibly Drachma's [ ₯ ] tomorrow...) a day!

Maybe I'm simply still complaining about the "no bread" diet I'm "enjoying"! yum.gif laughhard.gif

OTOH, I finally got a web cam that seems to work well with a Mac. I ran a Cat 6 cable through the ceiling of a closet in the room with the Macs and the Extreme, across the attic, down through the ceiling in the garage and out through the facia, just under the eave of the roof. Power comes through the Ethernet cable (PoE) and the camera even has a microphone! I'm hoping to have it available on my weather site, soon! It wasn't cheap, but two other attempts failed and had difficult to use video formats. wallbash.gif Here's a screen capture from a few minutes ago:
Looks like I need to 'play' a bit with the Saturation/Hue/Brightness/Contrast settings...

Now I can watch the birds eat the expensive seeds from my Mac and, later, from most anywhere on the web! Maybe even while waiting for the bread to bake? laughhard.gif
