Title: Forums or is it Fora?

In the good old olden days, we would all flock to our relevant fora to give our opinions about this and that.

Nowadays, the tumbleweed is visible in almost every forum I visit.

Where are they? Is there a secret club I have not been told about?

Facebook has its' place but I am not sure whether all the forums (sp) have relocated to that place.

I liked forum life. I only had two for my Mac, and two for my riding but these places have nearly all but died.

What am I missing here?

I would edit that statement just a bit. Maybe delete "new" since it has been around quite a while.

I would add "most" in front of "people". There are still some who (hopefully) deleted their FB pages/identities and, believe it or knot, there are some who have never joined!

Just this week I saw another 'social' site has started up; "Skout", I believe. Claims to have better age-related groupings; 'kids' separated from 'adults'. Not sure how they can confirm our true age... I guess they only allow 'honest' people?

Personally, I still prefer 'real' over 'virtual' people (TS members, excepted, of course!).

While I have a FB acct, I could live without it quite easily. Problem is that friends and family don't seem to be able to live without FB, so if I want to keep in touch, I have to go to FB. Texting is nice for a short message, but not for long term keeping in touch. Few people answer email any more (I do - feel free to drop me an email).

Yes, in the long run I prefer face to face friendships, but for those who don't live near me ... I'll keep in touch somehow. Now if they all go to twitter, I'm done.

Sorry, I'm showing my age and Jr. High 'humor' favorites; whenever I hear "Twitter" I think of the Monty Python Flying Circus skit on British Twit contest! Has nothing to do with any kind of "tweet", of course. OTOH, they also had a great skit about a parrot... but it didn't "tweet" either...

Count me in the "I can do without FaceBook" category. I know, I know...fuddy-duddy am I. I suppose if I were younger it might be more important to me to find out what acquaintances are doing, but frankly I just don't care that much. Yes, I'd like to know if good friends are having any difficulties where I might help but I really don't give a fudge if their grandchild just cut his first tooth or their daughter went to the Riviera in southern France for the summer. Goody goody for you. The people who really matter to me keep in touch via email, snail mail, are here at TS or I actually SEE them in person occasionally. Now there's a radical idea. Yes, there are people who are thousands of miles away and I wonder how they are doing. But at the moment I have too many other things on my plate.

Oh, sorry if I sound so negative. Just getting through a bout of back problems and didn't mean to be so grumpy. (we only have one official grump here at TS...
