Got this one today - too funny. The PS is an attempt to befuddle the easily confused, who've been told to never click on links in emails.

That's the funniest one that I have yet seen. I'd like to meet the person who was stupid enough to click the link. On the other hand, that's what Congress is for...
-
Yes, yes! I mean,
Never use those "Official" links/bookmarks/typed into a browser things! Who knows where those might take you!
-
HAHAHA! Thanks for the laugh to start the day.

What?! Are you trying to tell me this is a SCAM?! I already have my steamer tickets to Cote d'Ivoire!!! BTW, is that a town or a country...

All you could possibly want to know about Ivory Coast, the country

In the past few months, I have received these kinds of emails from "James Kirk," "Joe Stalin," and "Ansel Adams."
Most of these kinds of frauds happen in Nigeria (which is why they're called 419 scams, from section 419 of the Nigerian penal code), and I suppose the folks who do them can't really be expected to be familiar with Western names. But still...

I think it's just part of their combined "English as a Language of Commerce and Useful Computer Studies" series. They don't exactly have scholarships, but they get to keep 75% of all income! A "BS" in any language is still the same "BS"!
No matter how well you 'educate' some people, they will always have enough greed to believe anything that promises large sums of cash! What is amazing to me is how any rational person would think that they would be picked by a complete stranger, in a foreign land to be in control of anything valuable, much less, multi-millions of dollars!

Oh, I got one like that, and I went to Africa with some 'friends' and we got the money. But got arrested too, and spent a few years in jail, but needed to lose weight, and that happened. Did some research on disentary and malaria too, quite interesting. Its a great way to get slim again!
But managed to get out with the money and started a business selling weight loss scams to people on the internet, and got some pretty funny things to happen.
But alas, I got put in jail again, and am in an American jail, and its wonderful, Ive gained all my fat back, Im up to 489 pounds already, and the food is awesome, I have all sorts of perks and full hospital care and I dont have to spend a cent of the $ I brought back from Africa any more.
Im pretty happy here, though I miss my lovely Lear jet, and my new Maserati.
My new name is Amazing Kone. Or should I spell it Cone?

I have recently experienced a slightly different peculiarity on my SL Mini, running Entourage for mails.
On Sep 18 a message appeared, ostensibly from eBay, with a header in German. When I clicked to read the message, Entourage froze completely. I had to restart the Mini. As long as I avoided the eBay message there was no problem.
Yesterday another "eBay" message appeared with a different German header. I assume it would also freeze the Mini, so I have not tried to read it.
AFAIK I have never used eBay. Is somebody trying to make mischief here (other than freezing Entourage)?
Today I discovered a little yellow flag, top left in the header window, allowing me to delete the message from the server - and have done so.

Another trick with Entourage (to delete problem emails without viewing them) is to Control-click the message and click Delete Message from the contextual menu. That moves it to the Deleted Items folder. You can empty the DI folder from there. The easiest way to do that is to go to Tools > Run Schedule > Empty Deleted Items Folder.

That's a good first clue. Remember, if you have "Show remote images" checked/allowed, simply opening an email can provide confirmation that you have a valid email address and could even download an app to your drive. So far, these apps are for Windows, but you are still sending info to a server showing that you allow images, and therefore, some access to your system.
Companies can also get info on which ads (usually images) that you may see, even if you don't click on them.
All this personal information belongs to us, why should we give it away for free?
Basic email rule #1: Never open a message you have no reason to expect to receive.
Basic email rule #2: Never click on a link/URL in an email.
Basic email rule #3: Re-read above rules.

Many thanks, jchuzi and XABD.

As if we needed to reinforce 'safe surfing':
QUOTE("MacIssues")
n the mean time, this exploit is primarily in the proof-of-concept phase, and does require specific modification of installer files in order to work. This means that even though this overcomes Apple’s security, it will still require you obtain compromised software from unofficial third-party software distribution sites, an act that essentially breaks a primary rule of any computer security. Provided you only get your software from the App Store or directly from developer Web sites, then you should be safe from this problem.
This is a summary of the <MacIssues> blog about a vulnerability in GateKeeper.
...uhm, we are all using GateKeeper, right?!

The message at the bottom of this one, received today, made me laugh. As did the return path: nobody@snoopy.ims.net

So kind of them! They are only looking out for your well being... well, somebodies well being...

SS caught one today maybe using the "Bayesian poisoning" method mentioned <here>. Nothing but an image would have displayed, if I had allowed that kind of crud. Looked at the source and saw several hundred words. Here's a sample:
CODE
<a href="http://ultrakurzwellen[...]64552,2114771,,1045828&eb=">
<img src="http://ultrakurzwellensender.xyz/images/0e571258fe.png" border="0" />
</a>

Note that if I'd had not had a white background, I would actually have seen those words. They intentionally set the text color to white with the HTML + CSS <div style="color:#fff">. I suppose Mail is quite forgiving of incorrectly written CSS... (there should be a semi-colon after the last "f") The point is "#fff" is the short-hand version of the hexadecimal number for white; Red="ff", Green="ff", Blue="ff". These SPAMmers/SCAMmers assumed that most of us have white background in our mail readers.
BTY, the image is one from AIG Insurance that would normally have several links to their insurance offerings. As you can see in the html, the only link is to the SCAM/SPAM site. Anyone clicking on what looked like a link would see what looked like getting sent to the AIG site... at first, anyway. Somehow, I doubt that they would be "offering" any kind of useful 'insurance'... even for "ultra short wave transmitters", which is the english translation of their domain name.
I was even more surprised that the link actually takes one to the real AIG site. Mainly that just lowers my already low esteem for them, even if this is done by the "Moosehead Media" slugs.
I've sent the source to spam@uce.gov with no expectation of anything useful happening. At least I feel better, and am encouraged by SpamSieve's increasing 'knowledge'!
A 'WhoIs' search reveals that "ultrakurzwellensender.xyz" supposedly belongs to "Moosehead Media" with a hotmail addy. I'm amazed that any legitimate company would still use a hotmail account! I have no idea who they actually are, but one site with that name sure did not encourage me to contact them.QUOTE

With over half a decade of automotive advertising experience, Greg has truly become one of the brilliant young minds in the industry. He continues to challenge passé and static methods of advertising by bringing them into the 21st century with innovative and industry leading products that can get you where you want to be.
I've seen enough 'advertising/direct mail' SCAMs at my Scams site to not get closer than a dozen 10-foot poles!
No doubt, "Greg" and AIG now both have at least some of my personal info. I am convinced that they have a working relationship. I expect I'll be getting a call from one or both soon, just another one with "Private caller" or "Unknown Name" or no caller ID info at all.

Warning
Let's hope that these "yahoos" never learn how to speak English.

Finally, some one uses "yahoo" as it should be. I had decided many years ago that no one else knew what a "yahoo" is, especially no one looking for a name for any kind of respectable business.
I hope your message, containing all that personal information, gets to them before that "Five" days are up! I think those kind of days are only 20 hours long... However, with such bad grammar, they may also have trouble calculating those days, no matter what their actual length!
I think it is very nice of them to give "more certainty for [their] Legal Service clients." It's also very nice (for you, anyway) that they "will be increasing the surf on the Internet". I hope some of that comes this way! I have noticed quite a bit of calm seas of late, have had revert to paddle boarding!
I wonder, however, if your law-skirting uses of the "surf" may cause them to cancel your account, even if they get your data in time. At least that's what I take from this statement:"so that your email account status were fleet in our database as a very active, useful and legal email account".
Many of these workers are hired right out of Grade School, so I think it just a typing mistake that created this: "we will not be responsible for loosing our account". I'm sure they meant to have a "y" in front of that "our".
All this concern, help, and improvement and not a single word about increasing the cost! Looks like you picked a real winner"!
