I have a need for some fairly basic knowledge, and I just found this group while searching for help. We have a small network, running two powerMac G3's with an iMac server. The G3's have os8.2, and we run the iMac on os9.2. We can't go beyond 9.2 because custom software we use for our business won't run on anything newer. Meanwhile, I want to change my ISP, and need to upgrade everything to at least 9.0 before that can be done. Can I copy the 9.2 on the iMac to the G3's? Duh - how is that done?

alfauno. Hello. Welcome to the Forum.

First. Not to be picky but there is no OS 8.2
There's OS 8.0 and it's 8.1 Upgrade.
Then there's OS 8.5 and it's 8.6 Upgrade.
Doesn't matter really.
Second. You need to buy new Copies of an OS 9 version for each machine.
Anything else is Piracy. Stealing.
Here's one source.

You might find it for less elsewhere.

But the short answer, I think, is that there was no "upgrade" from any of the 8.X's, to 9.2. . .If I remember correctly, that was one that you had to buy; a major "step up", if you will. You might also try to score a copy on eBay. I bought a sealed copy of 8.5 with a downloadable upgrade to 8.6, for $32.50, when they were still selling out of the "shops" for $80! Check how many sales the guy has under his belt, and check the recommendations of some of his previous customers, though. . .

Thanks to everyone for the guidance. I'm happy to buy upgrades, but going to the Apple website produced only confusion so I needed other sources. Kelly, you're right - I meant 8.1
