I'm using Safari 9.1.2. I just updated ScamZapper to version 2.0.2. The app offered to install the SZ extension and I allowed it to do so. That extension does not appear in Safari > Preferences > Extensions (although the app says that it is there) but does appear in ~/Library/Safari/Extensions. In the previous version of SZ, there was no issue.
I posted this at the SZ website but perhaps someone here can offer an explanation.

Never heard of the app. Hope it's not just "SCAMware"!:laughhard:
BTW, there was an arrest in Nigeria in the last few days. "Mike" reportedly made ~60 million dollars with his email phishing SCAMs. No word yet on any compensation arrangements...

Problem solved. At the suggestion of someone in FineTunedMac forums, I deleted the app from /Applications and also deleted the extension from ~/Library/Safari/Extensions. Then, I used EasyFind to locate and delete stragglers. I then reinstalled the app and everything appears to be fine.

EDIT: After installing SZ, I found that Safari was very slow (lots of spinning beachballs). I unchecked Aggressive Mode in the SZ extension and that solved it.

I didn't even do half those steps! Of course, that may be due to the fact that I don't have/use SZ.

Just for grins, what, exactly has that app/extension done for you? Can it replace any other extensions?

I don't know if that extension has done anything for me. Maybe it's because I don't visit certain "questionable" websites...
AFAIK, it doesn't replace any other extensions.

Apparently all it does is stop those popup windows that you sometimes run into that claim you have a virus and won't let you close out of it. Considering that I haven't run into one of those in eons, and quitting the browser always kills 'em should you run into them, I think I agree with Linc Davis:
