Title: Remember EIG?
Post by: Xairbusdriver on September 23, 2016, 05:15:43 PM
After some marginally helpful 'tech support' today, I created a new thread at the Hostgator forums. Always enjoy perusing forums and reading a few complainers whines. Came across one that linked to The Digital FAQ and there I found several comments/editorials about EIG (who now runs ASO). I'd forgot that they (EIG) also now own <Hostgator.> That may explain the differences I've experienced in the past as compared to what happened today.

If you need some worrisome info about your connection to the web with a web site, it might be worth reading some of the stuff at <The Digital FAQ>. It is apparently kept up-to-date fairly well and seems very supportive of good hosting companies.

Yep...I've been moving all my clients to NameCheap ever since EIG bought Hostgator. Tech support has gone downhill, advertising has become horrible (every time you go to your control panel, you're hit with stupid popups) and all the usual trash that goes along with being gobbled by EIG. They don't appear to have done quite the same thing to ASO, perhaps because ASO is much smaller than Hostgator. However, they got rid of the ASO user forums (likely because they required that the company actually employ someone to monitor them).

EIG just keeps on gobbling everyone else up - alternatives are fewer and fewer. Hostgator used to be pretty good, but I don't put any new clients there now! sad.gif

I was actually looking into NameCheap last month. Good to know it's doing well and is probably pricing itself out of EIG's reach! OTOH, it seems to be getting harder to keep registration and hosting out of the same location. Some people, with multiple sites are spreading them around just to avoid a total meltdown. Sad.

I'm pretty sure you brought EIG to our attention in the last 12 months, I probably should look for that thread and move these posts there. Right now, it's time to start watching Season 5 of Longmire! Or maybe the new series of Wallander! scram.gif
