Title: iOS 10.0.2
Post by: sluggo on October 01, 2016, 07:04:03 AM
I've got an iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3.5. Has anyone made the move to 10.0.2 yet? Some articles and reviews say smooth sailing, others show a ton of comments with nothing but trouble. Debating whether to do it this weekend or give it another couple of weeks.

I just upgraded my iPhone to iOS 10.0.2 and there is an immediate difference. And for me, not a particular happy one. Instead of swiping to unlock the phone, now it's unlocked with the Home button. After swiping for all this time, wondering why this change in particular?

Sure to find more... At least the phone works for now!  whistling.gif

Thanks for the experience. I generally unlock using the fingerprint on the home button. I think I'll hold out for at least another couple of days and see what the responses are.

No issues, other than the one Chris mentions, and that doesn't apply if you have an iPhone 6 or up with the fingerprint feature. smile.gif

I'm running iOS 10.0.2 on both my iPhone and my iPad mini and have no issues here. As Paddy said, the fingerprint on the home button still works just dandy.

No iPhone here, but I have both an iPad Air 2 and a Mini 3, both running 10.0.2, and have experienced no problems although the fingerprint recognition works much better than it used to!  biggrin.gif

Yup, chugging along with an iPhone 5S here thinking of upgrading to the SE now that they are really cheap!

There are several sites explaining the change for the Lock Screen behavior as well as how to change it back to the old way.

My biggest problem was finding where to set the time for the Lock Screen to activate! I set it to "Never" while downloading/installing the update. Could not find it afterward. Until I viewed a site explaining the benefits of the new procedure. In one of the screen shots I saw where they moved the setting; It's now in Settings->Display & Brightness instead of Settings->General. I've not yet tried to discover the thinking for that move. wallbash.gif The Lock screen has nothing to do with Display & Brightness.

It's also frustrating to have to click away the initial screens that come up on some Apple apps which seem to think you've never used them before.  rolleyes.gif

On the good side, there are several nice improvements in viewing threads in emails! thumbup.gif

What is this fingerprint recognition of which you speak?

Current versions of Apples phones and pads have a 'scanner ' built into the 'home'  button, that reads your finger print. This is one method of security they have included.  You don't need to scan all fingers, just 2-3, so that when you start up/ open your phone/pad or pay thru Applepay, it 'knows' that it is you using your device or app.

Can someone tell me which button you use to send a Text Message? It's changed.

Hi Gary,

The little blue arrow pointing up on the upper right of your message, or green arrow if you're texting an Android device.

Yes, it's that "send-what-i-just-typed-to-the-sender-of-the-message-I-just-got" button. rolleyes.gif I am starting to wonder, more and more, how the seemingly change-because-we-can icons come from. Is there some kind of contest for "who-can-change-the-smallest-thing-and-completely-baffle-the-user"? Or maybe a "who-can-hide-the-most-controls-in-the-strangest-places"? Is "tech support" now getting paid by the number of calls they receive? wallbash.gif

I don't know why they had to change that - like Gary, I looked at the screen scratching my head the first time I attempted to send a message in iOS 10. However, the icon does have the advantage of being the same in all languages, so maybe that was a consideration. Who knows?

Another advantage for ... uhmn... some people who post here too much... I... er he... I mean they won't send a message in the middle of writing it because they don't accidentally confuse the two similarly shaped buttons despite the fact that only one of them was clearly labeled "Send" while the other was clearly "Return". wallbash.gif

Another 'feature I just discovered; I can now make my 'messages' even more confusing by using the 'make-finger-become-a-drawing-tool-and-'write'-in-illegible-script!' function! Hint: Rotate your phone to landscape and click the tiny 'keyboard' icon (lower-right). blush-anim-cl.gif Who says hand-written notes are dead?! laughhard.gif

Been at it with the new iOS most of the week on both my iPhone 6 and my wife's 5. So far so good. The usual minor adjustments that come with new OS tweaks but no big problems. Fortunately I'd read on this forum about the new home button protocols. Messaging seems to have some neat new functions that we haven't used and completely figured out, but that will come in time. I can't say that I'm unhappy with the update.
