Title: SOLVED: Odd icon on iPad home screen
Post by: kimmer on October 08, 2016, 01:43:27 PM
SOLVED: see post #6

This FB icon shows up on the lock screen of both my iPhone and iPad mini. I can't figure out why it's there, nor how to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Yes, it is; but why is it there and how do I get rid of it?

I don't use Facebook so I can't test this out, but do you have anything in Facebook preferences that might affect this? Is it possible to delete cookies and/or caches?

Facebook, and Yahoo for that matter, have been harassing me about notifications.  I finally got a Facebook Messenger installed on my Android phone and since then I've been asked to approve Notifications on several different machines.  I would say you must have looked at Facebook or something and now it is telling you that you should look again.  What a world, what a world!

I figured it out. It's an El Capitan/iOS setting known as Handoff, which is part of Apple's idea of continuity and connecting all my devices.

Because all my devices are signed in to my iCloud acct, Handoff is on by default. As far as I can tell, the choice is on or off, with no option for on with some apps and off with others. FB is set up to use Handoff, so there's the icon. I'll have to learn to ignore it, although it bothers my mild case of OCD.  tongue.gif

Or you can get PathFinder and have it hide the Finder's Desktop... thumbup.gif PF is much, much more-betterer, anyway! Although I think Finder added at least one PF function, can't remember exactly what it is. PF has had Tabbed windows almost since its beginnings, but I don't use those. What I do like is one very wide window with two separate panes. Oh well.. choice is good, just wish we had more of them come November...

This is on the lock screen on my iPhone and iPad, not on the finder window of my iMac. wink.gif
