Title: Calendar app Spam
Post by: krissel on December 01, 2016, 12:21:05 AM
I thought it was just me:

I got one of these in my Calendar application on my MBA last week. I don't use the Calendar so I was surprised to see a notification pop up in the corner on start-up.

I didn't know where it came from since there was nothing in Mail that corresponded to the ad.

I finally went into the prefs and unchecked the last choice here:

Also changed to manually refreshing the calendar so these things won't constantly annoy me. Could also turn off Notifications as well, of course that limits the use of Calendar.

(I'm using 10.8.5 on the MBA so your choices may be different in your OS or follow the suggestions in the article.)

This gives me yet another reason to avoid iCloud.

There was an article at TidBITS about this on 11/29, and I followed their instructions for prefs in iCloud; so for those who wish to use iCloud, here's additional information:

I've just started seeing this as well. For any new way people invent to share and communicate, some miscreant will use it as a vehicle for exploitation.
