Title: Networking iBook ?
Post by: SnowWitch on July 28, 2003, 10:20:45 PM
Since the software that came with the Linksys router doesn't seem to apply to Macs, and the instructions on the Linksys website applied to OS9, I'm sort of at a loss as to how to get the iBook hooked up. I've been running it on DSL by itself, and I will call Verizon tomorrow since they will support the Linksys routers (wired) but for the time being if anyone could point me in the right direction I shall be most grateful.....but now it is time  sleep1.gif trish

You do not need any software or any special setup to use a router. You plug a cable into the router, plug the other end into the iBook, and you're done.

To configure software, just start the computer, and you'll probably be online immediately. If you start the computer and you aren't online, just run System Preferences from the Dock, click on Network, and where it says Show: choose Built-In Ethernet. Then make sure it says Configure: Using DHCP. That's all there is to it!

Thanks "tacit" for the info....I was online, but it was that "DHCP" that clicked in my fuzzy head and did the trick....I had not unclicked the PPPoE option in the Network Preferences.....trish
