Some of you old timers will recognize the name. Al was one of the original founders of TS and was an upbeat guy with a positive outlook on most things. He left TS after many years of contributing in order to spend more time with his growing family. In response to our recent notice of the new software change, we received the following:
"Aloha Techsurvivors!
Thank you for sending me this email update. It was refreshing to see that you all are still in full force with this forum. I'm not sure who I may be writing to but wanted to inform some of the members of the board of who I am and who my husband was. My name is Rhana Lau and my husband was Allen Lau, a previous board member of Techsurvivors many years ago. I thought I should take this moment to inform you that my husband passed away in August of 2014. His passing was due to illness which was both shocking news for us as well as quick. If you could kindly share this information with any board members who may have known Allen and worked along side with him back in those early years, I would be very grateful. For me to have received this email and take notice that it was from this forum, I had to catch my breath there for a second.
My sincerest best wishes to all of you,
Rhana Lau
Honolulu, Hawaii "

Thank you for sharing this Kris. Indeed, Al was a great contributor here at TS, having done our backups as I recall for a long time during his tenure. RIP Allen Lau. And all the best to his family. :(

Yes, I recall that he did the backups for TS for quite some time. I recall also that he and RHP got together a couple of times when Richard traveled to Hawaii.
Thank you for sharing this, Kris.

Very sad. Al was only 48 when he died. :(

Our family visited Hawaii some 12 years ago and I called Al when we got there. We managed to have a short meeting with his wife a young daughter. He had a true Hawaiian attitude, very friendly, happy and welcoming. He will be missed at TS, also.

This news of Al's passing breaks my heart. We were very close while he and I were active on the board. We shared all sorts of things related to Macs and family.
Almost 20 years ago, I visited Al, Rhana and Kaitlin. It was my birthday and when I shared that with Al, he and Rhana put on a Hawaiian barbecue to help me celebrate the day. I'll always cherish the memory of my time spent with them.
They gave me gift that day and I still use it every day as I have for 19 years. Here's a picture I'd like to share with all of you.

I am so very sorry to hear about Al's passing! :verysad: Way back when TS first started, and I was "Member #32", I remember how much he helped me out (a lot!) with something.
As with so many good people here, he was so very generous and patient.
He had much aloha.
