A couple of interesting articles:

It's already reached it's breaking point:

Speaking of 'facial recognition'...
NYPD (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/may/16/where-everybody-knows-your-face-woody-harrelson-photo-used-to-spot-thief) used a picture of Woody Harrelson while trying to find a thief.
I wonder is he gets royalties.

The late Carrie Fisher (aka Princess Leia in Star Wars) quipped that she gave George Lucas the rights to her likeness. She said that, every time she looked in the mirror, she had to send him $2.

Now THAT'S funny! Why didn't you post it in the "We Need More Humor" topic?! :wallbash: :dntknw:

Like so much 'technology', it can be used for good or bad. And as long as humans are making that decision, we will have problems. I appreciate that store trying to make visiting it safer. However, my cynical nature suspects it is more materialistically motivated; it might help reduce income loss from theft. Even reducing losses could help customers if that expense savings is used to reduce prices.

Of course, the mere mention of a database conjures up the probability of the loss of control over that data. Those losses can be as mundane as inconvenience where that data may be needed. But that loss is rarely benign.
