Title: Your FTC is Protecting You and Your Children
Post by: Xairbusdriver on September 04, 2019, 10:38:47 AM
Google (YouTube) will pay $170 million in settlement. Based on an estimated revenue of Google for 2018 of $136.22 Billion (from Statista.com (https://www.statista.com/statistics/266206/googles-annual-global-revenue/)) that is a 0.00124798 hit!! Adds a bit of credence to one of the Commissioners comments:
Quote from: Rohit Chopra
[T]he "terms of the settlement were not even significant enough to make Google issue a warning to its investors." Chopra said he fears "the Commission brings down the hammer on small firms, while allowing large firms to get off easier."
Sorry, I don't have any details comparing fines on various sized firms. Full sad story (https://www.npr.org/2019/09/04/757441886/google-youtube-to-pay-170-million-penalty-over-collecting-kids-personal-info).
EasierCheaper to ask forgiveness than permission.

Interesting how often the word 'kids' was used instead of 'children' which I believe lessens the impact. Many years ago, I was told by an editor that "kids are young goats and we don't use that word for children".

I still dislike that use of the word but can't deny I do sometimes give in.

Usually when they're acting the goat (https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/act+the+goat)

Ah well, times change.

Glad to know there is a British definition for my 'normal' behavior! :blush-anim-cl:
