Keep getting the proverbial "Photos library not available. Try again later". No matter what I do, I can not get it to work, and I have followed everything I found online. This has happened since I switched over to a new iMac. Running Mojave 10.14.5. Do I dare update to Catalina? Always have had problems updating system software!

I wondered whether you had been using iPhoto or the newer Photo; I noticed a problem at one time after I updated the OS and I had to do something "extra special" to get the preferred iPhoto to work again. There are links out there for this. I remember having to run something in Terminal to setup photos at some earlier point.

Using Photos and I had no problem till I changed computers.

Can you open the Photos - and its library - when you're NOT trying to import? IE: is everything working properly except importing from the iPhone?
It sounds like it might be a permissions issue, but that's just a preliminary guess.
Is this a brand new Mac with a warranty? If so, you can call Apple for help for the first 90 days - or 2 years if you've bought AppleCare. Just in case we can't come up with the answer. ;)

Yes, I can open photos with no problem, and yes it is a new iMac and I have Applecare. Thanks.

Spoke to a computer guru today who told me that iTunes will not import the photos, that I need to use the cloud.
