"which type are you?"
I don't know, but I've created a text file of the article and saved it in a several different directories (I tend to forget which ones are used for what...). :wallbash: Furthermore, I am not obsessive about my vast collection of files/data, I can delete "old" stuff any time I want! :coolio:

On the other hand it seems some bodies fail to keep enough. Along with, apparently, not creating backups...

I definitely *was* a digital hoarder. I had documents from the 1990's, and I couldn't even open them.  :blueeek:

Since my move, I've discovered that I don't need all those files. The only ones I've missed are my music files, some recipes, and a few other documents. Hopefully once I get my old iMac set up, I'll have access to all those files; but if not, I've learned that I can easily live without them.

Using my MacBook Pro with its limited storage space, has forced me to only save what was absolutely necessary (house docs), and I keep those backed up on two smart sticks. The best part is that this no-more-hoarding attitude has carried over to my house and I've been blessing others with all kinds of things. My closet is minimal with clothes, as is my dresser, garage, and even my kitchen--where I actually have empty space in my cabinets! Once I dive into the other boxes and rooms, those will go minimal as well. It's really quite freeing not to be tied to stuff -- digital or tangible.

A cross between a "collector" and an "accidental" would be me. Ok...maybe a little of category 4, since I do have emails all the way back to 1999, but those are all personal ones that ten years earlier would have been hand written letters.

As a board member of our local historical society, it's interesting to contemplate the potential loss of so many of the day-to-day exchanges that so often give very telling glimpses into life in times past. Methinks those "anxious" hoarders may prove to be rather useful down the line.

We take photographic records of everything so much for granted - but sometimes nobody documents the ordinary; what did your neighbourhood look like 30 years ago? I live in a spot that, in 1840-1860 or so, had upwards of 60 houses, small shops and businesses. All completely gone now (in the 1900s a large part of it reverted to farmland), and no photographic record exists of any kind - because it just predated photography becoming widespread and common. How fascinating it would be to be able to see what it looked like then...

And I'm not telling you how many emails I have. (and yes, I do weed. And yes, I do actually occasionally require info found in old ones...)

😳  Ummmmm. . . Does having about 500 books on my Kindle app qualify? 🤣 OTOH, the vast majority of them are free books through Bookbub.com, that I intend to tackle as soon as my free subscription to Kindle Unlimited runs out in April!

Course not. Books are exempt.

Says the woman with lord-only-knows-how-many-books-on-her-iPad-and-Kindle.

Love BookBub - the only problem with it being that it gets me hooked on reading various book series (which aren't "on sale") - which of course, is exactly what it's no doubt trying to do. But having several author friends, I'm sympathetic to the whole trying to make a living at being an author thing, so figure I should help out. :D

I agree with Paddy, books don't count. I have so many, I'm having to hand write lists of the order of various series so I don't skip. ;)

I'm sure I still have an old style mac laptop in my basement and I still use a G5 Powermac for music in my bedroom!  Probably should've sold the Kaypro's
when I had a guy that actually needed them but he had a nasty attitude!

I pay for Unlimited and "borrow" books now. Plenty of titles for the subject matter I like. Then I "return" them and get them off of my iPad.
As far as other stuff, I run CleanMyMac X every now and then.

My question, sluggo, especially during these times of extremely tight money, is “Why spend money when you can get it for free?”

I'm no Howard Hughes. But $9.99 month doesn't diminish my account enough to make me skip neccessities.

Well, I sure can't argue with thinking that reading is a necessity; I can remember being fascinated by books and their ability to transport me to "other spaces" from the time I was about 4 yrs. old, and I still feel that way, so. . .👍🏻 However, being involved in photography & music, I have to be pretty careful with where I drop my $, and Amazon, bless their hearts, has definitely gotten enough of them over this last 9 months! 🤣

I guess I'm guilty of being a digital hoarder, since I have 20 years' worth of digital photos on my computer that I hardly ever call up. I do not keep emails. But other computer stuff, that's a different story! Now that I am anticipating a move to an assisted living apartment, I am trying to sort, give away, and/or discard drawers-full of cables, 3.5-inch floppy disks, CD-R disks, outdated software, etc. Many of these items are still in their original packaging. I even had more than 20 years of TurboTax install disks. I need to de-clutter!

Hmmm.... Anyone want a copy of the Adobe Type Manager User Guide? Book contains envelope with three floppy Claris MacWrite disks. May have come  from a paper I worked for in the late 80s,  but have no idea why I've got it  :dntknw:

I really MUST clear some of this stuff out...
