Bitcoin whitepaper found hidden in macOS with unknown 'Virtual Scanner II' app (https://appleinsider.com/articles/23/04/05/bitcoin-whitepaper-found-hidden-in-macos-with-unknown-virtual-scanner-ii-app) I checked my system and that file is, indeed, there. Any thoughts?

Did you find any other reference to a Mac and that file?
EDITED:
Well, it's not really "hidden", it's simply in a folder regular users are supposed to tinker with. Path: BootDrive/System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/
I suspect you will find these files on every recent Mac OS. I have it on my iMac, the mini and my wife's MBP. If you want to remove it, don't be surprised if it gets re-installed at the next OS update. I'll leave it alone as I routinely use Image Capture.

As a matter of principle and self-preservation, I never mess with anything in /System. A long time ago, I did a no-no involving changing permissions and I hosed my system!!! (Fortunately, I had an up-to-date clone and was able to restore everything. This was in the days before Time Machine.) The good part of all this is that I learned some new vocabulary, namely #@$*&. I leave the pronunciation to the reader.
