Can't remember the place in Mojave Preferences, but I think in Big Sur it was still in System Preferences->General->Appearance. You should see seven choices; Blue, Purple,Pink, Red, Orange, yellow, Green and Graphite. All those colors ar "light" and translucent. They may be hard to see on very light backgrounds. You may also want to 'play' with your display contrast settings and even any "Increase contrast" settings in Accessibility. Lastly, check your Keyboard Shortcuts list for an "Increase Contrast" choice for +command+F5.

In Ventura, there is also a "Multicolor" choice to help with low contrast when using the standard colors. I'm not sure there was a general "Light", "Dark" and "Auto" setting in Mojave.

I don't have an answer. The only thing that I can suggest is a shotgun approach: Run Repair Disk with Disk Utility.

"All apps..."
Yes, and that indicates it is a System problem.

1. Please send a screenshot and the name of the app in use at that time.
2. Also a screenshot of your System Prefs, showing the "General" page.

Uhmm, I may not be able to read/speak French, but I beg to differ with your comment. According to your screen shot, there are exactly eight colors available for use in your System.

You had the "Blue" dot selected when you took the screenshot:
"Couleur d'accentuation:" shows the left-most color 'dot' selected.
"Couleur de surbrillance:" shows what any highlighted text would have as a background color; "Graphite".

I still do not see the requested screen shot I posted in my last post:
"1. Please send a screenshot and the name of the app in use at that time."

That would allow us to see more of what you are seeing on your screen.

Suggestion [three steps]:
1. Select a different "color dot", the fourth one from the left (Red). Now, 2. select some editable text and 3. send us a screen shot of that area of the screen. Show us the selected text AND the text above, below and to each side of the selection. In other words, select an area that includes a selected word (or two) and include a line of text above and below as well as a word of two on either side of that selected word. Please see the image below. It shows a word (Show) highlighted within some text in several lines of UN-selected text.

Thanks! :D

The problem is ..in "Couleur de surbrillance: .all the color in these preferences are white , even if try to change them, they stay white.. :wallbash:
That's why i would love to reset  theses preferences...:-)

ADSR, please consider following my (3 step) "Suggestion" [Reply #10] in my last post. :D

By the way, your last screenshot showed the highlight color as "Graphite". That should appear as a very light gray if your document background is white. That's why I am asking for a screenshot of a document where there is no apparent color. "White" highlighting won't show up on a "white" background.  :WOW:

The first "colored" dot actually sets the default System 'color' used in your OS. Despite the dot appearing as dark blue, the actual highlight color is a very light gray. Please select another color (Red?) and send is a screenshot the General Prefs page. I'd like to see/read what shows in the "Couleur de surbrillance" section.

Thanks! :D

White" highlighting won't show up on a "white" background

That's my  problem !... but any color i choose stays a fraction of second , than return to white..all the colors stays  white  ...as you can see on the screen capture..
That's why i think it would be ok  to reset theses preferences ...but how ?

Here's a possibility: Go to ~/Library/Preferences and look for com.apple.preference/general.plist. This may contain the highlight preference but I can't be sure. Move this plist to the desktop (don't trash it). Then, go back to System Preferences/General and reset your preferences. If this works and there are no untoward issues, you can trash the plist on the desktop. If not, return it to that location.

I cannot guarantee that this will work. You also might try my previous suggestion of using Disk Utility to run Repair Disk.

(If you have difficulty accessing that location, in Finder click the Go menu, click Go To Folder, type ~/Library/Preferences, and press Return.)

ADSR, the screenshot you are sending is of your System prefs.

I am asking you to send a screenshot of some “Selected text” while using some app that is displaying some text you have entered. You could use TextEdit, Word, Pages, Preview or any other app you want.

What I want to see is some text you have highlighted in one kind of document, not anything in System Prefs.

I don't understand why you want me to send a text ...? when i selected a phrase in it you can see nothing about the selection ...only the same text

I need you to send me a screenshot of some selected text. An image (screenshot) of some selected text . Below is a screenshot of some text I selected in Preview ["She could make"]. Note that it includes some UN-selected text above, below and to either side of the selected text. That is an example of what I am asking you to do. Please review the three steps I posted in my Reply #10 (https://techsurvivors.net/forums/index.php?topic=29181.msg220682#msg220682).

I'll check for your reply Monday? :dntknw:

Thanks  :D

In your posts #9 and #13 you sent us a screenshot, so I know you know how to do that. A screenshot is an image that you can attach to a Reply here at TS. By default, any attached image in a post appears below any text you write in a post. So...

1. Open an app that allows you to enter text.
2.a. Type several lines of text in that app.
2.b. Alternatively, just open a document that includes some text.
3. Select a word or two of that just written text.
4. Make a screenshot (image) of the area of your screen that includes the selected text and a few words on either side of the text. [Shift + Command + 4]
5. Attach that image(s) in a Reply.

We don't need an "rtf", "doc", "txt", etc. file. Those are not images. We are waiting to actuall see what you are seeing on your screen in an app that displays text. The actual words are irrelavant, they don't even need to be in any particular language. We are not interested in your writing. We want to see an image of what you see on your screen. In other words, a "screenshot". :Look:

I've attached a four images using different highlight colors as examples.

Please make a similar change in your System Prefs and then perform the 5 steps above.

Thanks!  :sos:

Haven't seen a Reply from ADSR since last Monday. Hope he's just busy with life/work/vacation. Otherwise, it would be considerate to let us know if his problem has been fixed or not. :dntknw:

Not sure, but I think his taking a screenshot won't make any difference cause if the highlighting truly isn't working, then no color will show and it will just look like the regular text. That's the reason he is so frustrated.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to his problem other than perhaps doing a reinstall of the OS. Pretty drastic solution, but might work.

That's a problem with the System screenshot function, if you use command + Shift + 4. While is does show a selection, it is normally light grey. However, using command + shift + 3 gives you a screen shot that includes selection highlighting. Granted, cropping out 97% of that image takes just a bit of work, I think it would be worth trying to make a reply. I think even Mojave macOS 10.14 had a "Screenshots" display with descriptions of what each keyboard shortcuts do. And there are so many free/cheap screen capture apps out there, why bother with OS limitations? :dntknw:

Actually, I suspect his problem may be related to his contrast, saturation settings. Likewise, when you pick a different color "dot", a white dot appears in the center of that choice. Is that white center what is confusing him? :dntknw:

I don't mind if he found another solution from some place else. We(I) might just learn something.
