Just ordered a Dual G4/1.25 GHz with OSX.
Can I hook up BOTH to my monitor so that I can work in my old one and learn the new OS before making the total switch?
Once I'm totally comfortable in OSX and have all my apps and working files and peripherals switched over, I'll get rid of the G4/400.

Just plug and unplug everything for a while.
Takes about a minute and a half.

I think I will go the lo-tech route!
Do I have to shut off the G4 or monitor each time I unplug/plug?

"Monitor port is sometimes considered to not be hot swappable, but I have never seen damage from someone plugging in a monitor after the computer has started up. If I do unplug or plug in a monitor after the computer is on I always make sure the monitor is off before doing so. If you want to be on the safe side, shut down your computer before unplugging your monitor cable. Sometimes when you plug in a monitor after you turn on the computer, you will not be able to set a resolution above the default. To fix this, just restart with the cable already in."

I posted this question on two forums. Lots of straight forward advice - unplug/plug. Use a BNC connector. Use a KVM switch, etc. All work to different degrees.
Then BruceF tells me I have the switch I need right in the front of my very own monitor.
That is too cool!
I guess that's why these Forums work.

Happened to see your posts...& would like to ask a similar question. I have a beige G3 that I'd like to hook up to my flat-screen iMac to operate the G3. Is it possible? I've added USB to the G3, and of course have ethernet to network on.
Right now I don't have a moniter for the G3
and I can't get the ethernet connection to work or find the G3.

-- too bad there isn't a way i know of to link through ethernet or USB, except Apple's software that's pricey.. I forget what they call it, but allows remote screen viewing. Apple sells it for teachers in computer classes. I wonder if there's share or freeware to do that.
