*distance wise* will your wireless routers/?? actually cover right out of the box?

It seems most manufactures claim 200/300 feet in ideal conditions.
150 feet normal every day.
When was the last time anyone ever seen an ideal condition.?. <gr>

With my Airport (the original platinum model) that had an advertised/ideal distance of 150 feet, I get a solid 110-115 feet from the base station to a PB/G3 Lombard (with a Farallon PC card). Distance beyond that, the connection reliability drops sharply.

Some routers even claim up to 1000 feet, but I have never even heard of anyone getting that. With my SMC router, I can get about 200 feet away at home, and about 125 away at school (concrete walls and tons of electrical equipment interference).

Friend of mine told me his apple extreme usually does around 125/35.
Anywhere in his two story home,yard also.
Well he did state there was one area upstairs where it losses the signal.
"When my kid starts screaming ...... nothing works period!" smile.gif

Figured by now there would of been more chiming in on their personal distance.

This is a whole fifteen feet from the base station. smile.gif

The signal (off the net) starts losing it fast around 95 feet.
Haven't tried seeing when it does drop out yet. Guessing around 120 feet maybe.

I'll chime in with my D-Link 614+...

I get more than satisfactory range. I live in a 80yr old solid ( and I mean solid) three story brick house. The WiFi router is in my basement office, it looses one bar off the indicator when on the third floor. Same for being in the back yard...the signal has to pass through a double brick wall plus through a concrete block and brick addition on the back of the house. I have no complaints. smile.gif

Other than that file sharing glitch, I'm happy with what I have.
It has a extra port that's used for an external antenna for future farther distances if one so desires. Been told you can get a beam type even to shoot towards another base ... again ... again .. and again. smile.gif Thanks but no thanks. biggrin.gif

Been corresponding with someone I bought a mac from.
The subject of distances [topic] came up between electronic hellos.

Too my surprise this individual stated that the original iBook had gotten better distance/reception than its 'AL' PB replacement on the exact same setup.
Close to twice in all aspects.
In the guessing game, the census is plastic versus aluminum casing.

The new Al books have the antenae in the top cover, an improvement over the Ti book. Maybe the iBook is still the distance champ, but I'm okay with my reception on the 12" PB.

The first Ti books had noticablely less reception than the iBook had.  It had to do with antenna placement AND the Ti's case.
