Title: Quicksilver internal modem

I am still in need of a modem replacement for my 800mhz Quicksilver.  Can someone tell me why they are so hard to find?  I am wanting to replace the internal modem with an identical Apple modem.  The only way I know of to get one is e-bay.  I have never purchased anything on e-bay so only want to do this if I have no other choice.

Advice needed,

Ryan. Maybe if more macs were hit by lightening. smile.gif

There would be more of a business in them.

Quicksilver internal modems aren't very good. my 933 has to run in V34 modem 9.2.2. most ISPs won't support V92s.  My 6500 when installed OS 8.5 internal would not work at all.Went external and to this day still runs in the 44's. 933's internal is 32 at best, mostly 19 to 22.

I consistently get 46-48K on dialup with my 933. It will get what your line and isp are capable of delivering.

Not sure if you stated before [yes or no] on whether you have applecare.

Kruser: All Dial-Up ISPs should support V90. V92 is a new protocal that was supposed to speed up modem internet access, but I don't know how that turned out. Try using a different modem script that says V90. If you are using V34 right now, it is expected that youget those slow connection speeds, as V34 is  the 33.6 modem standard communication.

Giant Mike: I called my ISP they said you can use a v92 but it's no better than V90. My 6500 ,8.6 runs in the 44's. So it can't be the  phone. The V90 takes 4 or  5 tries just to connect. Once on  later it will cut me off. This G-4 -933 has been nothing but a headache to me ,this is my third computer and the worst. Modem sucks, Crashed and lost half of my hardrive in 9.2.2 had to reinstall, had tripple files, Retospect  works perfect but nothing on the CD disk  but backup Media #1 or #2, Apple has forced every body to 10 +  because nothing will work in the near future with out it. I go into 10 and can't get back to 9.2.2. Had this computer 7 months and damm near useless. Only good thing is virus's  don't get it. upset.gif

Sorry to hear about your experience.  The modem in my Quicksilver has worked great up until this point.  It would get as high as 48 when connected.  Same as gman.

Could never make myself pay the money for Applecare Bill.  Guess I could of put it to use this time though.  Although Applecare is alot more than the $50 I will be paying for the modem.  Thinking.gif

You're right there on the $50 Ryan yet if you flip your hat around, what 'if' there were more problems than just a modem with that storm.?.

Don't quote me on this Ryan. I thought I read somewhere that the modems in the 800 QS were the same as the ones in the 933s. Maybe others as well.
See if you can dig up a part number and compare with the other machines.
