Don't buy ink. Just get a new printer.

Of course, one could probably buy third party inks for much cheaper ($5 per cartridge). If someone is buying a $30 printer, they can't be too concerned with print quality

On the other hand, I believe ALL lexmark printers are disposable

I'd think that was true, but not anymore.  I bought an $88 HP 2110 and it prints at 2100dpi and also has color scan and copy.  Works better than the $400 HP pro I bought 3 years ago.

I like Epson and Canon printers, they are somewhat cheap, but also has good print quality for the price.  Also using good photo quality paper is required if you are going to print photos.

I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.  Today, just about any printer for home use, prints well.

I think Epson has excellent photo quality.  But I don't like a printer without a paper tray.  Top loaders, in my opinion, suck turtle dong; they aren't designed well and exspan the printer's footprint (pun intended).

I buy only HP because they last and last and last.  Oh they also print well too.

Hey ljocampo.
I like my epson tank.
I know when it's printing .. my neighbors, street, h*ll the whole blasted city does also.
Now as far as going-going-going. Was doing pretty well for awhile. Four 740s in or about six years wasn't bad. This one just keeps on ticking way past the others .. guess three years all by its lonesome.

Oh but I've seen this flick (in the same theater even), so I'll let someone else who wants my seat have it.
More interested in the gal making the popcorn. <gr>

Speaking of ink, a trick I learned from Bernie. When in Word, or your text program of choice, select "white" as your font color. Not only will you use less ink, but fewer will notice your spelling and grammer errors.

When doing research a couple of days ago before helping my Mom buy a new printer, that particular Epson model earned an astonishingly consistent 10 out of 10 thumbs down from CNET reader reviews. Epson has produced inexpensive printers before, but I don't recall seeing that much negativity about the quality. You'd think that they'd start being a little concerned, considering that so many computers are sold these days with the cheapo Epson printers as part of a bundle, so many people's first impressions of Epson may be formed by these printers. Not a good marketing move if the impressions are so bad!

The trouble with using 3rd party ink is that if you have problems with the printer, you often can't tell if the ink is the problem or contributed to the problem or if the printer is at fault. Though I guess if you treat the printer as a disposable item, it hardly matters.
